GENIUS Act Rules Are Reshaping the USDC vs. USDT Battle

22 October 2026 at 03:45

The US stablecoin market is entering a new regulatory phase, with Circle’s USDC and Tether’s USDT facing different challenges as federal oversight takes shape. Last night, UK time, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) finalized rules implementing the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act. The framework establishes requirements covering reserves, redemptions, risk management, reporting, and regulatory supervision, with an effective date of January 18, 2027.

President Trump fundamentally transformed the future of finance with the signing of the GENIUS Act last year.

Circle could benefit from its established US regulatory positioning, while Tether faces questions about how its international stablecoin business will fit into the new framework. The stablecoin market has USDT’s market share at 60.7%, compared with 23.9% for USDC. Together, the tokens represented 84.6% of the market.

New GENIUS Act rules put Circle and Tether on different paths as USDC and USDT compete for US adoption and global stablecoin dominance.
Stablecoin Market Cap, DefiLlama

The figures highlight both Circle’s opportunity and the scale of the challenge. USDC has room to expand, particularly among institutions seeking regulated digital-dollar infrastructure, but winning market share will require continued adoption, liquidity, and integration.

For Tether, the priority is protecting USDT’s established position while adapting to the requirements of an increasingly regulated market. Its international user base remains a significant competitive asset.

GENIUS Act on Exchanges and Institutions

The effects of the GENIUS Act extend beyond stablecoin issuers. Exchanges, payment providers, and financial institutions must assess which tokens they can support and how their products fit within the new framework.

Stablecoin rewards have emerged as another important battleground. The OCC’s final rule prohibits issuers from directly paying interest or yield to holders simply for holding payment stablecoins, but it does not impose a blanket ban on third-party reward programs. Instead, regulators will assess these arrangements case by case, including whether they circumvent the law’s restrictions.

That approach could shape how exchanges compete for stablecoin deposits. Platforms may retain room to offer qualifying rewards, while issuers and their partners will need to consider how their arrangements are structured.

The GENIUS Act also leaves further implementation work ahead, including separate requirements for anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance. The January 18, 2027, effective date gives affected businesses time to prepare, but regulatory applications and decisions will help determine how the framework operates in practice.

Can USDC Close the Gap With USDT?

New GENIUS Act rules put Circle and Tether on different paths as USDC and USDT compete for US adoption and global stablecoin dominance.

Circle has an opportunity to turn its regulatory positioning into stronger adoption among US institutions, payment companies and businesses seeking compliant stablecoin infrastructure. Tether, meanwhile, must preserve USDT’s global dominance while navigating the requirements governing access to the American market.

The GENIUS Act could make regulatory compliance a more important competitive factor, particularly for companies building payment and settlement services around dollar-backed tokens. That creates an opening for USDC to gain ground even as USDT retains its international advantages.

The next milestones will be issuer applications, regulatory decisions, and the January 2027 implementation deadline. These developments will help clarify which stablecoins are best positioned to serve American customers.

Switzerland Bitcoin ETF and Cameroon’s Paul Biya: A Financial Haven Debate

21 October 2026 at 03:54

Switzerland approval of its first retail Bitcoin ETF puts investor protection and financial transparency in focus, as Cameroon President Paul Biya extended stays in Geneva raise questions about accountability in an international financial centre.

Switzerland’s financial regulator approved the fund on October 20, opening a new chapter for retail cryptocurrency investment. The decision also offers an opportunity to examine the safeguards governing Switzerland’s financial system and its role as a destination for international wealth.

Switzerland Bitcoin ETF Approval Brings New Scrutiny

The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) approved the country’s first publicly available investment fund that invests directly in Bitcoin.

The fund falls under Switzerland’s collective investment scheme framework, classified as an alternative investment fund carrying particular risks. Unlike existing Swiss crypto exchange-traded products structured as debt securities, the new vehicle operates under a different regulatory framework.

FINMA granted an exemption from standard diversification requirements, citing Bitcoin’s relatively long trading history and substantial trading volume compared with other cryptocurrencies.

Switzerland launches a Bitcoin ETF as Paul Biya and Cameroon ties revive questions about the country’s role as a financial haven.
Switzerland Bitcoin ETF Approval, FINMA

The regulator also stressed that approval does not eliminate Bitcoin’s market risks. Investors could still lose a significant portion of their capital because of price volatility.

Custody arrangements, operational safeguards and transparent risk disclosures remain central to the approval. The fund is expected to begin trading in November, according to its issuer, BIT Asset Management.

The decision raises a question: as crypto becomes more accessible through regulated financial products, how effectively are investors protected against risks associated with digital assets?

Between Switzerland and Cameroon’s Paul Biya

Cameroon President Paul Biya returned home on August 20 after spending 73 days abroad, including an extended stay in Geneva, Switzerland. The 93-year-old leader’s absence attracted scrutiny over government continuity and political succession in a country he has governed since 1982. His office had described the trip as a short private stay.

— Africa Today Media Group (@africatodayMG) October 19, 2026

Switzerland’s appeal to international investors extends beyond crypto. For decades, the country has attracted foreign wealth, including money linked to politically exposed individuals. That history has repeatedly raised questions about whether financial transparency and anti-money-laundering safeguards are sufficient to prevent the country’s financial system from being exploited.

Paul Biya’s extended stays in Geneva bring a political dimension to that debate. His presence in Switzerland does not establish that he has used Swiss financial institutions to conceal assets or launder money. However, the questions surrounding the costs and transparency of his stays illustrate why the relationship between political power, wealth, and international financial centers deserves scrutiny.

Switzerland has introduced measures to combat money laundering, including enhanced due diligence for politically exposed persons. Yet the existence of regulations does not demonstrate how effectively they are enforced in every case.

The arrival of a new Switzerland Bitcoin ETF adds another dimension. As regulated crypto investment expands, the effectiveness of custody controls, beneficial ownership checks and anti-money-laundering procedures becomes increasingly important.

The question is not whether Biya is connected to the fund. No such connection has been established. It is whether Switzerland can maintain its position as a global financial center while ensuring that its banking and investment infrastructure cannot be used to obscure the origins of politically connected wealth.

For Switzerland, the challenge extends beyond approving new investment products. It is also about demonstrating that financial innovation and international capital flows operate alongside meaningful transparency and accountability.

Tether Iran Dispute: Ardoino Pushes Back Against Senate

20 October 2026 at 04:55

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the company froze Iran crypto addresses an average of four weeks before official designations by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and Israel’s National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing (NBCTF), while attributing a 94% decline in Iran-linked stablecoin volumes to those actions.

This is part of Tether’s response to a Senate report; the company has not published the measurement period, baseline, address set, or asset scope behind the volume decline. Ardoino also said Tether froze reported addresses.

Senator Blumenthal's "analysis" of Tether's sanctions report misses that, since 2023, Tether froze on average 4 weeks prior to OFAC & NBCTF official sanction designation and for 99% of the times Tether froze the reported addresses before Chainalysis labelled them.

Tether…

— Paolo Ardoino 🤖 (@paoloardoino) October 19, 2026

In an X post, Ardoino challenged Senator Richard Blumenthal’s interpretation of the Senate findings. His four-week average refers to the time between Tether freezes and official OFAC or NBCTF designations. The separate 99% figure concerns when Tether acted relative to Chainalysis labels.

The report, Tethered to Terrorism, was published on September 28 by Democratic staff of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. It examined 846 wallets sanctioned or targeted for seizure over links to Iran and its proxies between June 2021 and August 2026. The report found that 84% transacted exclusively or nearly exclusively in USDT.

One case in the report complicates Tether’s account of early action. Israel’s NBCTF designated 39 wallets tied to Hezbollah financier Tawfiq Muhammad Sa’id Al-Law in June 2023. Tether froze five, while the other 34 remained open until March 2024; more than $34.6 million in USDT left those wallets in the interim.

The report credited Tether with responding to designations “in some instances” since late 2023, while describing its overall effort as uneven and inconsistent. The Senate findings concern both USDT’s use by the wallets and the timing of action in individual cases, placing the company’s timing defense alongside a specific period of continued transfers.

Nearly $550 Million From Iran in Separate 2026 Tether Freeze Disclosures

In a disclosure released on September 28, Tether said it had supported freezes of nearly $550 million in Iran-linked USDT during 2026. The total included more than $344 million across two addresses in April and more than $130 million across four wallets in July. Tether did not itemize the roughly $76 million balance.

The Senate’s 84% figure measures the share of its wallet sample that used USDT almost exclusively; it is not a freeze-timing statistic. Tether’s separate volume claim concerns Iran-linked stablecoin activity, a distinction that matters when assessing the issuer’s role in cross-border payment flows and the visibility of wallet activity to blockchain analytics firms.

Tether faces Senate scrutiny after a report questioned Iran linked wallet freezes and referrals raised potential sanctions and violations.

TRM Labs estimated Iranian crypto volume at about $11.4 billion in 2024 and $10 billion in 2025, a decline of roughly 12% across the broader market. CoinGecko put USDT’s market capitalization at about $183 billion. The larger market context makes Tether’s claimed reduction consequential for compliance scrutiny, while the company’s approach to regulatory compliance controls remains a central issue in the dispute.

Treasury and Justice Referrals Are The Next Step

Blumenthal, the subcommittee’s ranking member, referred the findings to the Treasury and Justice departments. His referral asks officials to consider potential sanctions and banking-law violations, including under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the Bank Secrecy Act.

The immediate institutional question is whether either department acts on that referral. The report also said Tether had confirmed receipt of the subcommittee’s June letter without responding to it as of the report’s publication.

BlackRock Tokenization Push Gathers Pace as Wall Street Races to Tokenize Assets

20 October 2026 at 04:34

BlackRock BUIDL tokenization on a tokenized money-market fund has grown to about US$2.3 billion since its 2024 launch, while the asset manager explores whether tokenized fund shares can serve as collateral in traditional finance, beyond crypto markets.

BlackRock’s tokenized funds are already being used as collateral in digital-asset markets, according to Dan Maley, who oversees the firm’s cash business in Asia Pacific. The proposed next step is to connect that existing use to Wall Street’s broader financing and margin systems, where conventional money-market funds already support trading positions.

HUGE: $15.5T BlackRock sees tokenized funds used as collateral in tradfi, just like in crypto, letting investors back trades without cashing out. pic.twitter.com/Z7pblz1hCl

— Coin Bureau (@coinbureau) October 19, 2026

Tokenization changes the rails on which ownership moves, rather than what a money-market fund holds. Shares represented as tokens could pass between approved investors without a cash redemption first, potentially letting institutions keep money invested while transferring ownership or pledging a position.

Traditional money-market funds already serve as collateral for trading positions, including initial and variation margin. If tokenized shares can be accepted within those arrangements, institutions could transfer or post fund interests without first redeeming them into cash, potentially reducing friction when reallocating collateral.

But round-the-clock transfers do not mean round-the-clock cash redemptions. The operational gap is still material: ownership may move on-chain while the fund’s redemption process remains governed by its own terms and operating arrangements.

For traditional-finance use, banks and other institutions would need to accept the instruments as collateral, existing market infrastructure would need to accommodate them, and regulation would need to provide sufficient legal certainty.

Legal Certainty and Market Plumbing

The International Monetary Fund has identified fragmented platforms, legal uncertainty and difficulties connecting tokenized finance to existing infrastructure as problems for the sector. Those constraints affect whether a token can operate across counterparties and systems, not simply whether it can be transferred on its originating blockchain.

BlackRock tokenised funds are already collateral in tokenization markets, but Wall Street use depends on legal and institutional acceptance.

The International Swaps and Derivatives Association has also identified custody and segregation frameworks, capital and margin treatment, cross-border recognition and legal certainty as issues requiring industry standards and regulatory clarity. Scott O’Malia, the association’s chief executive, described those areas as necessary to address for tokenized assets to cross into traditional finance.

For institutional collateral, the practical test is whether a tokenized share retains clear legal treatment when it moves between parties, jurisdictions, and existing systems. A successful transfer on-chain solves only one part of that process; counterparties also need defined rights and operating procedures when collateral is posted, valued or returned.

BlackRock BUIDL’s Scale Meets a Different Tokenization Test

BUIDL’s US$2.3 billion tokenization scale gives BlackRock an established product around which to develop tokenized-fund use cases. Scale can attract institutional attention, but collateral utility ultimately depends on acceptance by the firms that hold, manage and receive assets in financial transactions.

Early users largely came from crypto markets, including stablecoin holders seeking yield, according to Nikhil Sharma, a director on BlackRock’s digital-assets team. The initial customer base therefore reflects an on-chain demand for cash-like yield; expansion into conventional markets would require a different network of counterparties and operating arrangements.

BlackRock tokenised funds are already collateral in tokenization markets, but Wall Street use depends on legal and institutional acceptance.
Nikhil Sharma, BlackRock

This transition is part of a broader shift in how tokenized assets are being considered: not only as digital representations of stocks, bonds or money-market funds, but as instruments that could alter how assets move through financial markets.

For BlackRock, tokenized funds may eventually support collateral workflows as well as crypto-market activity, provided that institutional systems can recognize and process them.

The near-term focus is on the acceptance layer: bank recognition, infrastructure compatibility, and rules governing custody, margin, and cross-border treatment. Until those pieces are in place, tokenized fund shares remain a live collateral tool in digital-asset markets and a proposed extension into traditional finance.

Solana Shanghai Event Halted After Police Visit, Raising China Fears

16 October 2026 at 03:29

The Solana Foundation postponed the Shanghai morning agenda of Solana Accelerate China 2026 on October 16 after attendees reportedly encountered officers outside the venue and could not enter. The foundation cited venue logistics, but did not confirm what caused the disruption or provide a replacement date.

The foundation’s explanation was limited to logistical considerations at the venue. Its notice said the schedule would be updated once arrangements were confirmed and registered attendees would be notified. No replacement time was available in the reporting published on October 16.

— Wu Blockchain (@WuBlockchain) October 16, 2026

For now, the practical consequence is narrower but concrete: the Shanghai agenda did not proceed as scheduled, leaving registered participants without a confirmed new time. The incident also puts attention on the operating conditions for Solana’s China-facing outreach, without resolving whether the interruption was routine venue friction or something more consequential.

— Anndy Lian (@anndylian) October 16, 2026

The disruption is drawing attention because it concerns a public blockchain project holding an in-person event in Shanghai, where China crypto regulation is a central consideration for companies working around digital assets.

Solana Accelerate China 2026 was presented as a Solana Foundation event, and the Shanghai gathering was part of the project’s local ecosystem outreach. That makes the postponement relevant to developers and firms assessing the project’s regional presence.

The same evidentiary limit applies to the event’s future. No available statement says the Shanghai gathering was permanently canceled, and no replacement date has been confirmed. Until organizers provide an updated schedule or a clearer account of the venue issue, the cause remains unresolved.

CZ Binance Amazed by Solana Shanghai Boldness

Changpeng Zhao, the co-founder of Binance, was impressed by Solana’s growing presence in mainland China, where crypto businesses face strict regulatory restrictions. On October 15, CZ praised the project for securing an office in Shanghai and advertising across the city. He noted that BNB Chain had not achieved the same access, adding that he hoped one industry player’s progress would benefit others.

It's amazing to see that Solana was able to advertise and even get an office in China. 👏@BNBChain was not able to do this, so far. 🤣

Hopefully, what's good for one industry player is also good for the rest. https://t.co/fNRRWnAGpt

— CZ 🔶 BNB (@cz_binance) October 15, 2026

This incident follows a similar episode in Shenzhen in October 2025, when a Solana-themed event was cut short after local police made inquiries. Organizers attributed the disruption to overcrowding and canceled a final hackathon presentation for safety reasons.

Solana is not the only crypto-related project facing restrictions in China. Authorities ordered domestic cryptocurrency exchanges to close and banned initial coin offerings (ICOs) in 2017, before expanding restrictions on crypto transactions and mining in 2021.

In February 2026, regulators reiterated the prohibition on unauthorized cryptocurrency business activities, banned unauthorized offshore issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins, and tightened controls on tokenized real-world assets (RWAs).

The distinction is that China has not banned blockchain technology itself. Beijing continues to support blockchain development while restricting private cryptocurrency trading, mining, fundraising, and related financial services. Its latest rules also prohibit unauthorized crypto-related advertising and marketing services.

Why Is Crypto Down? Hotter CPI Fuels Fears of Delayed Fed Rate Cuts

15 October 2026 at 03:28

Why is crypto down? Bitcoin fell by 4% over 24 hours, while Ethereum lost about 6.5% as hotter U.S. inflation and a technology sell-off put pressure on risk assets. The comparison sharpens a familiar market question: when rates and funding costs move back into focus, does Bitcoin trade more like a high-beta asset than a hedge?

September’s Consumer Price Index rose 0.6% from the previous month and 3.7% year over year. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy, increased 0.3% monthly and 2.6% annually, while gasoline prices jumped 9.1% and accounted for more than half of the headline monthly gain.

Why is crypto down? Bitcoin price fell by 4% as hotter U.S. CPI lifted rate-hike bets and weighed on crypto and technology shares worldwide.
Data by CME FedWatch

The readings put a possible Federal Reserve hike back on traders’ radar ahead of the October 27–28 meeting. CME FedWatch briefly showed a 31.6% implied chance of a hike on October 28, up from 22.1% a day earlier, before later pricing put the probability of the Fed staying on hold at 75%.

This swing ran riot for crypto because rate expectations influence the cost of capital and the appetite for assets whose valuations depend heavily on future growth. Bitcoin’s sensitivity to inflation releases and nearby support levels was already part of the market debate before this move.

AI Sell-Off and Bitcoin’s Performance May Explain Why Crypto Is Down

U.S. equities weakened alongside crypto: the S&P 500 fell 1.1%, the Nasdaq Composite lost 1.9%, and a semiconductor-stock gauge extended its declines to a sixth day.

In Asia, the KOSPI plunged 8%, and the Nikkei 225 fell 4.8%, with Samsung Electronics down 9.3%, SK Hynix and Kioxia each losing more than 11%, and SoftBank sliding 9.4%.

Oracle, CoreWeave and other AI stocks were as sensitive to higher borrowing costs, while technology supply-chain shares absorbed heavy selling. Ethereum’s larger decline than Bitcoin’s is consistent with greater weakness in higher-beta crypto assets.

What Happened and What to Watch

The market evidence supports a shared macro sequence: inflation accelerated, rate-hike expectations briefly rose, and investors sold technology and other risk-sensitive assets. Saxo Bank strategist Charu Chanana characterized the equity reaction as a repricing of capital costs, with investors reconsidering what they would pay for AI growth when borrowing costs are high and volatile.

JPMorgan analysts likewise identified financing risks and IPO timelines as central concerns for the AI trade. That helps explain why AI-linked equities came under pressure. The more defensible reading is that the CPI shock put rates at the center of a broad risk-off move in which crypto weakened too.

BlackRock is quietly de-risking. Most people aren’t paying attention.

It cut its equity overweight, trimmed its AI-heavy chip exposure, and dumped long-duration bonds.

Look at the… pic.twitter.com/bCBYQcAJ6Z

— Karan Singh Arora (@thisisksa) October 15, 2026

The bond response adds nuance. The 10-year Treasury yield fell 7.8 basis points to 5.110% as investors bought government bonds during the equity rout, a move Reuters’ account tied to demand for havens and falling growth expectations. In other words, the session was not a simple one-way repricing of every asset to higher yields.

Fed officials’ speeches, U.S. producer prices and retail sales were the next scheduled inputs identified in the market report. If further data or central-bank communication lifts the perceived chance of an October hike, pressure on AI-linked shares and higher-beta crypto could persist.

If the no-hike probability stays near the reported 75%, attention may turn to whether the technology sell-off stabilizes and whether Bitcoin can recover from around $80,764. TSMC’s third-quarter earnings are due later in the Asian trading session on Thursday. This will offer another near-term test of the AI hardware narrative, while the October 27–28 Fed meeting remains the key policy event.

South Korea Exchange Ban Hits KuCoin, MEXC and 25 Other Platforms

13 October 2026 at 05:01

South Korea Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) disclosed that authorities had ordered a domestic access ban on 27 websites operated by unregistered overseas crypto exchange platforms, including KuCoin, MEXC, Phemex, BingX and BitMart. The move extends enforcement from app stores to websites, with the FIU warning that users could have difficulty accessing funds or making withdrawals.

The exchange ban targets unregistered crypto exchanges that regulators consider to be operating locally in South Korea. The FIU assesses that connection using factors including Korean-language websites, marketing aimed at Korean users and support for payments in won. The communications review body approved the requested measures following reviews held on October 6 and 7.

South Korea's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) announced that the country's communications review authority has ordered domestic access restrictions on 27… pic.twitter.com/TWnze71oUY

— Wu Blockchain (@WuBlockchain) October 13, 2026

This is a new enforcement channel, not the start of the crackdown. The FIU had already asked Google and Apple to restrict new installations and updates of unregistered exchange apps; Google Play restricted 17 platforms, including KuCoin and MEXC, in March 2025.

The FIU says regulators will seek blocks after detecting unregistered activity, subject to the communications review body’s approval, without waiting for court rulings or confirmed user losses.

It also plans to pursue replacement websites if blocked platforms relaunch under new addresses. For exchanges, the test is whether their local-facing operations can continue when access routes are repeatedly closed.

The potential penalties add legal exposure to the operational restrictions: operating without registration can result in up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to 50 million won.

This latest ban is part of a shift in South Korea crypto regulation, where website access, exchange, and app distribution are both enforcement levers. The country’s digital-asset policy has also developed on other fronts, including a review of Ripple’s Korea partnership with Meritz.

South Korea Exchange Ban Aftermath and Withdrawal Risk

The FIU urged customers holding assets on affected platforms to withdraw them immediately, while acknowledging that access blocks could make withdrawals harder. It plans to guide users through the Digital Asset eXchange Alliance (DAXA), the industry group involved in the response.

The warning makes the enforcement practical as well as legal: a blocked website can complicate access even when the underlying assets have not been seized.

Cost is another part of the regulator’s case. A June probe by DAXA and registered operators found that flagged exchanges charged average fees of 1.5% to 10%, compared with an average of 0.16% at South Korea’s five largest won-based exchanges. That puts the flagged rates as high as 62 times the domestic average.

Tiger Research estimated that Korean investors paid foreign exchanges $3.5 billion in fees during 2025. Tiger Research and Chainalysis also estimated that approximately 700 trillion won moved from Korea to overseas exchanges between 2021 and 2026; the total includes a projection for 2026 and covers only traceable routes.

Those figures show the scale of offshore activity, but do not establish where affected users will move their assets next. Domestic financial-sector developments, including South Korea’s crypto-collateral debate, illustrate that enforcement is unfolding alongside other changes in the local market.

The FIU’s stated next steps are to seek further restrictions on replacement sites and to support affected users through DAXA if access or withdrawals become difficult. Whether traders return to registered domestic exchanges or move to on-chain venues remains an open question; the immediate test is whether the blocks disrupt withdrawals before users can transfer their holdings.

China Crypto Strategy Expands as Beijing Backs National Blockchain Network

12 October 2026 at 05:57

China announced crypto plans for a national blockchain network. The proposal appeared in a policy document from the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, made public by Xinhua. The document frames blockchain within a wider digital-economy expansion, while mainland China’s ban on cryptocurrency transactions remains in place.

China Crypto plans send Conflux soaring above $0.07 as traders rush to bet on Beijing’s blockchain ambitions.
The Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China

The China policy document, titled “Opinions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on Developing New Productive Forces,” makes no mention of Bitcoin or other independent crypto. Its broader agenda includes digitizing manufacturing, building a national integrated computing-power network, and advancing the “Eastern Data, Western Computing” project, which shifts data storage and computing activity toward western regions.

Beijing’s support for blockchain as infrastructure may create opportunities in enterprise and government systems, but it does not amount to permission for mainland residents to trade private cryptocurrencies. China’s existing state-backed Blockchain-based Service Network (BSN) supports government and business applications while prohibiting cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin from operating on its rails.

— Cointelegraph (@Cointelegraph) October 10, 2026

Whether the proposed national system builds on BSN is possible but unconfirmed. The policy also cautions against prioritizing virtual activity over the real economy or creating bubbles, a signal that the stated objective is practical integration with manufacturing and other economic activity, not unrestricted token speculation.

Related blockchain applications include atomic settlement of tokenized assets and regulated controls for on-chain financial products, but neither establishes how China’s network will be designed.

CFX’s Rally on China Crypto Positioning

IBTimes reported that investor interest in China-linked Conflux increased after the announcement, with CFX climbing from Saturday morning and reaching highs above $0.07 on Sunday. At 8:00 a.m. EDT that day, it was near $0.066, more than 26% above the previous close.

China Crypto plans send Conflux soaring above $0.07 as traders rush to bet on Beijing’s blockchain ambitions.
CFX USD, Tradingview

The source describes CFX as widely seen as China’s only regulatory-compliant public blockchain, citing Conflux’s work with state-backed corporations, its approach to unregulated crypto token sales within China, and its founders’ professional and academic ties to state-run Tsinghua University.

But the policy document does not name Conflux as the operator of the proposed network, nor does it say CFX will be used as its token. The rally prices an association and a possible future benefit, not a government selection or confirmed integration.

The China narrative can attract speculative demand quickly, while any durable fundamental case would require evidence of a role in pilots, standards, or deployed infrastructure. The policy announcement supplies none of those confirmations. It supports the view that blockchain is part of China’s digital economy agenda.

CFX Price Snapshot: Event Highs and Later Data Differ

The reported event-session reference was approximately $0.066 at 8:00 a.m. EDT on October 11, after CFX had traded above $0.07.

The near-term test is whether the market continues to assign value to Conflux’s China-linked positioning after the headline reaction, while policy details remain unspecified. Until authorities identify implementation standards, governance or participating networks, the announcement is a meaningful infrastructure signal-but not confirmation that CFX has secured a place in China’s national blockchain network.

Netflix Is Giving SBF Another Stage: What About His Victims?

9 October 2026 at 02:20

Netflix released the trailer for The Altruists on October 8, introducing an eight-episode drama about SBF(Sam Bankman-Fried) and Caroline Ellison ahead of its Nov. 19 debut. Anthony Boyle and Julia Garner play the former FTX chief executive and Alameda Research leader, while the Justice Department’s case records more than $8 billion stolen from customers and a 25-year prison sentence for Bankman-Fried.

Netflix presents SBF and Ellison as ambitious young idealists whose plans to remake finance ended in crimes involving billions of dollars. The trailer follows their relationship and decisions before the collapse of FTX and Alameda, giving the personal dynamic a central place in the story.

The cast also includes Alex Lawther as former Alameda co-chief Sam Trabucco, Matt Rife as former FTX executive Ryan Salame, Karan Soni as Nishad Singh, and Eugene Young as Gary Wang. Paul Reiser plays Bankman-Fried’s father, Joe Bankman; Robin Weigert plays his mother, Barbara Fried; Jennifer Grey plays Ellison’s mother, Sarah Fisher Ellison; and Terry Chen portrays Binance founder Changpeng Zhao.

Graham Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt are the series’s co-showrunners, co-writers, and executive producers, and James Ponsoldt directed the first episode. Higher Ground, the production company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, is also a producer. Netflix says the drama draws inspiration from reporting by New York Magazine.

Is Netflix Romanticizing SBF?

Moore’s account of the characters, as summarized in Netflix’s trailer feature, emphasizes people he views as having begun with charitable intentions before persuading themselves to commit crimes.

Hoyt’s framing highlights how the pair encouraged each other to build a company they believed could change finance, with their relationship contributing to its destruction. Those are the creators’ interpretations of the drama’s characters, not substitutes for the documented financial conduct.

The Justice Department said SBF directed FTX customer deposits to Alameda despite public representations that the funds were safe and separate from company assets. The department said the money financed investments, political contributions, real estate, and repayments of Alameda loans.

SBF atrocities & crimes will not be watered down as a “Love story”

This individual purposefully triggered a cascade of events that ruined so many lives

It also reported separate losses exceeding $1.7 billion for FTX investors and $1.3 billion for Alameda lenders, figures that should not be combined with the customer-fund total as if they were one measure.

The scale of those failures turns on controls and access, not only on the executives’ personal story. FTX’s customer-fund handling and Alameda’s ability to withdraw from the exchange remain central to the case, while the court-ordered forfeiture is a separate legal matter.

The Sentence Stands as Bankman-Fried Seeks Supreme Court Review

FTX collapsed in November 2022, after which U.S. authorities brought criminal cases against SBF and other executives. Ellison pleaded guilty, cooperated with prosecutors, and testified against him; a jury separately convicted Bankman-Fried on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy.

Judge Lewis Kaplan then sentenced him to 25 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and more than $11 billion in forfeiture.

The Justice Department’s sentencing account says the recovered forfeiture funds were authorized for victim compensation. That does not make the forfeiture order equivalent to customer repayments or the amount of customer losses.

All eight episodes of SBF The Altruists are scheduled to arrive on Netflix on Nov. 19, 2026. The drama will give viewers a compressed relationship-led account; the pending legal development is Bankman-Fried’s request for Supreme Court review, filed after the Second Circuit’s mandate put his 25-year sentence into effect.

Greece Crypto Tax Proposal Would Exempt First €500 in Annual Gains

9 October 2026 at 03:04

Greece is preparing a draft law that would tax individual crypto capital gains at 10%, with a reported €500 annual exemption. The proposed rate has been described as lower than rates in several neighboring European countries, but the proposal remains subject to public consultation.

The draft could reach Parliament as early as November. For traders, the exemption and any rules on taxable events could still change before enactment.

A Lower Proposed Rate, Unsettled Key Detail

The proposal concerns individuals’ cryptocurrency capital gains. A 10% rate and a €500 annual exemption, so that gains up to that threshold would be exempt under the draft. Neither figure should be treated as final while the bill remains open to consultation and revision.

That distinction is central to the Greece crypto tax story. The proposed headline rate may provide a clearer starting point for investors assessing after-tax returns, but the available information does not establish how the final law would define taxable transactions, calculate gains, or handle losses.

Those mechanics can matter as much as the rate for active portfolios. Until the draft’s relevant provisions are verified and adopted, assumptions about when a gain becomes taxable or which costs can offset it would go beyond what is established here.

EU reporting rules are a separate development: DAC8 expands tax information exchange around crypto transactions, but it does not set Greece’s proposed 10% levy.

The DAC8 requires crypto service providers to collect information on EU users’ transactions from Jan. 1, 2026, with the first cross-border exchanges covering 2026 activity due by Sept. 30, 2027. The European Commission’s DAC8 framework concerns reporting and information sharing, not harmonized tax rates.

That reporting shift makes compliance visibility a parallel issue. Other jurisdictions are also developing crypto reporting regimes, including through the UK’s crypto tax and CARF reporting framework, but those rules do not determine the Greek bill’s final terms.

Parliamentary Consideration Remains Ahead for The Final Greece Crypto Tax

Public consultation is the next stage identified in the available reporting. The draft could then reach Parliament in November, but that possible submission should not be mistaken for a scheduled vote or a guarantee that the proposal will pass unchanged.

The rate, annual exemption, and other provisions may be revised before enactment. Until lawmakers settle the text, the practical takeaway is a proposed 10% rate with a reported €500 threshold-not a tax obligation already in force.
