DBS Survey Finds 88% of Businesses Testing or Using Tokenized Money

29 October 2026 at 19:00

TL;DR: A DBS survey published October 28 found that 88% of businesses in its sample were deploying or piloting tokenized-money use cases. Crypto traders sometimes treat institutional survey results as proof that public token demand must surge.

A DBS survey published October 28 found that 88% of businesses in its sample were deploying or piloting tokenized-money use cases. The Singapore bank presented the results as evidence of growing interest in round-the-clock money movement, better liquidity management and expansion across trading corridors. Respondents also reported reworking treasury and finance processes against a backdrop of shifting supply chains. The headline percentage combines testing with deployment; it does not mean that 88% of large companies have replaced their traditional bank accounts with stablecoins.

The event and the market response

The survey connects tokenized money to a set of practical corporate needs. A multinational business may need to move funds among subsidiaries, pay suppliers in different currencies or reconcile balances after local payment systems have closed. Tokenized deposits and stablecoins can be evaluated for particular parts of those tasks, but successful treasury integration requires approvals, liquidity, accounting and reliable conversion to conventional balances. The bank also reported that more than three quarters of respondents expected AI to improve treasury, payment or collection operations over the next two years.

Why the development matters to the crypto market

Crypto traders sometimes treat institutional survey results as proof that public token demand must surge. That conclusion is too quick. Corporations may adopt privately operated payment systems or bank-issued tokenized deposits without taking directional exposure to volatile cryptocurrencies. The stronger market implication is demand for dependable settlement services and stable-value balances. Investors should ask which networks are actually used, how much real value they carry and whether adoption persists beyond early experiments.

An institutional buyer will evaluate the cost of connecting a new rail to its existing systems before celebrating the technology. That includes identity checks, transaction reporting, asset servicing, reconciliation and recovery procedures when something goes wrong. A smaller but repeatable workflow can be commercially more valuable than an enormous theoretical market size. In this case, progress should be measured against the promised operational improvement and the conditions attached to it. Without usage figures, no one can reliably turn a partnership or infrastructure milestone into a forecast of investment returns.

Tokenized finance is often described as a single market, but it covers quite different instruments: cash-like balances, securities, private credit and other claims. Each has different settlement and counterparty risks. Institutional adoption becomes meaningful when service providers can explain who owes what, how a holder exits a position and what happens during a dispute. The detail matters as much as speed. A sound launch can be the beginning of a larger change, although the step from successful integration to widespread, economically useful activity is rarely automatic.

What the headline does not establish

Survey evidence requires attention to definitions and sampling. A pilot can be a limited experiment, while live deployment might serve only a small fraction of a company’s transactions. Firms may also mean different things by tokenized money, including privately issued bank liabilities, stablecoins and representations of deposits. DBS has a commercial role in the financial-services market it is analyzing, making the methodological details especially important. The finding is useful as a measure of reported interest, but less informative than independently verified volumes and operating savings.

What to watch next

The next useful disclosures would break out pilots from production deployments, distinguish stablecoins from tokenized deposits and report measurable savings or settlement volumes. Those would help establish whether strong survey interest is becoming large-scale use.

Strategy (MSTR) Posts Record Operating Income as Bitcoin Rebounds in Q3 2026

Strategy posted the largest operating income in its history on Thursday, booking $20.91 billion for the third quarter of 2026. Most of that total came from a paper gain on the company’s bitcoin stack.Β

Net income reached $19.53 billion, or $44.75 per diluted share, up from $2.79 billion a year earlier.Β

Chief Financial Officer Andrew Kang, who announced his departure in the same release, framed the result plainly: β€œQ3 operating income of $21 billion was the largest ever in Strategy’s history.”

Strategy marks its bitcoin to market each quarter, so every price move flows into earnings. Bitcoin rallied during the period. The company’s 848,517 bitcoin were worth $68.9 billion as of October 23, when the token traded at $81,200. The holdings carry an average cost of $75,446, which leaves the position in the black on paper.Β

Kang pointed to the purchases as the engine of the quarter, saying the company β€œincreased our bitcoin holdings by 26% year-to-date in a challenging bitcoin market.”

Total revenue fell 3%from a year ago to $125.4 million, below analyst estimates of $127.2 million. Gross profit came in at $89.6 million, a 71% margin compared with 70% a year earlier. The company ended September with $2.50 billion in cash and equivalents and $3.40 billion in short-term investments.

Strategy’s bitcoin per share slips

Bitcoin per share, the metric management uses as its main yardstick, moved the other way. The BTC yield stands at negative 3.7% for the year, meaning each share holds less bitcoin than it did in January. Measured in dollars, the bitcoin position shows a $2.03 billion loss over the same period. To fund preferred dividends and stock buybacks, the company has sold roughly $431.8 million of bitcoin this year, a figure the release puts at approximately that amount.

Strategy raised $21.23 billion of capital in 2026, including $5.41 billion in net proceeds from its at-the-market program during the third quarter alone. The company then spent a large part of that money on its own preferred stock. It repurchased 20,980,508 shares of STRC for $2.04 billion at an average of $97.39 per share, a discount to the $100 stated amount.

Chief Executive Phong Le said the buyback program was meant to put the security on firmer footing: β€œStrategy demonstrated its commitment to returning STRC to health.” Management said it intends to keep buying while STRC trades below par, and about $956.7 million remains under the authorization.

The company’s dollar reserves now total $5.07 billion, made up of a $4.83 billion USD Reserve and $242.4 million of USD Cash. Strategy says that cushion covers 3.4 years of dividend and interest obligations. The board kept the STRC dividend rate at 12.00% to support trading near the $100 stated amount.

STRC moves to daily dividends

Shareholders approved a move to daily dividends on October 28. STRC begins paying daily on November 1, and STRF, STRK, and STRD follow on January 1, 2027.Β

Le framed the change as a step toward a different kind of market: β€œDaily dividends are a natural step toward the tokenized, 24/7/365 financial system. Digital Credit is being built for that world, and Strategy intends to lead it.”

Strategy also expects its preferred distributions to count as a non-taxable return of capital for ten years or more, because it does not expect positive accumulated earnings and profits. Shareholders should consult their own tax advisers.

That said, Strategy’s STRC stock is nearing $100. Earlier today, STRC reached $99.99 which once par would reopen funding for Bitcoin purchases. As mentioned ealier, shareholders approved daily dividends to improve liquidity and reduce price volatility. That said, Strategy has not yet confirmed a restart of STRC share issuance.

Bitcoin Price Slides Below $79,000 as Binance Loses $5.8 Billion in Massive Hack

Bitcoin dropped below $79,000 on Thursday as reports of a suspected multibillion-dollar hack at Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange, rippled through markets.Β

The selloff followed reports of heavy outflows from Binance-linked wallets. Some social media reports cited suspicious outflows of up to $5.8 billion, citing onchain data that shows about $3.55 billion in incoming transfers to an unlabeled wallet.Β

Conor Grogan, a senior director at Coinbase, put the figure at $5.8 billion.

Stablecoin issuers moved to freeze funds. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the company froze more than 1.567 billion USDT. Circle froze about $823 million in USDC, according to former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, who remains a shareholder.Β

Combined freezes range from $1.8 billion to $2.4 billion depending on reports. β€œProtecting the industry and our partners is our main priority,” Ardoino said.

Binance has made no official confirmation of a breach. Co-founder Yi He wrote on X that the company is aware of reports of a potential security issue and that its security teams are reviewing all relevant information.Β

β€œWe are aware of reports of a potential security issue and we are actively investigating…our security teams are reviewing all relevant information with urgency, and we will provide updates through official Binance channels as soon as we have verified information. Users should remain cautious of scams and should not trust unofficial links, messages, or requests for account information.”

Zhao wrote that, in his view, the exchange appears to have been hacked, and he expects all user funds to be covered.

β€œI don’t manage Binance anymore, but as a shareholder, I expect all user funds will be fully covered,” Zhao posted.

Blockchain researcher Spreek flagged the activity, which reportedly included a transfer through a contract call allegedly funded by Tornado Cash. Blockaid said it is investigating $3.3 billion in suspicious outflows from Binance hot wallets across Ethereum, Arbitrum and Avalanche.

If confirmed, the incident would be the largest crypto theft on record, surpassing the February 2025 Bybit hack of roughly $1.5 billion. Aave reportedly froze lending markets to block the suspected attacker from borrowing.Β

Binance.US said the incident does not affect its platform.

Figures remain fluid. One estimate puts the realized loss near 0.7% of Binance customer assets, and other reports continue to revise totals. Neither Binance nor law enforcement has released a formal account of the cause.

Crypto exchange Bybit was not affected. They tweeted that their β€œsystems are operating normally, trading and withdrawals remain available, and user assets remain secure.”

Bitcoin price drops under $79,000 after Binance hack jitters

Bitcoin is trading at $78,800, down 2.89% (about $2,350) over the past 24 hours. The price hit a 24-hour high of $81,890 around midday before sliding sharply after 4 p.m. ET, when it fell to a low of $78,177.37, after rumors of the hack circulated.Β

Trading volume over the period was about $26.14 billion, and bitcoin’s market cap stands at roughly $1.58 trillion.

Hedera Ecosystem Adds Bron Self-Custody Platform Through Industry Association

29 October 2026 at 18:00

TL;DR: Self-custody platform Bron announced on October 28 that it had joined the Hashgraph Association’s Global Membership Program. The news touches Hedera’s growth narrative without providing a direct HBAR demand estimate.

Self-custody platform Bron announced on October 28 that it had joined the Hashgraph Association’s Global Membership Program. Bron already supports the holding and management of HBAR and Hedera-based digital assets, according to the joint announcement, with a swap interface that relies on third-party solvers and smart contracts. Membership is designed to connect Bron more directly with enterprises, developers and other organizations in the Hedera ecosystem. It is not the announcement of a new Hedera protocol, guaranteed wallet protection or an exclusive exchange listing.

The event and the market response

Self-custody places control of assets and signing authority with users or organizations rather than relying entirely on a centralized exchange account. That can remove some counterparty exposure, but it creates distinct responsibilities around key recovery, device security and approving transactions. Bron describes its product as digital wealth infrastructure intended to serve assets that may include tokenized securities and stablecoins as onchain finance develops. The association says its program includes industry collaboration, technical resources and opportunities for ecosystem participants to connect.

Why the development matters to the crypto market

The news touches Hedera’s growth narrative without providing a direct HBAR demand estimate. Better wallet support can reduce friction for people who want to hold or use a network’s assets, but new membership is a step removed from daily active usage. Traders should avoid converting a partner announcement into a token-price forecast. Evidence worth following would include supported financial products, real wallet engagement and whether institutions adopt the platform with documented security procedures.

Cryptocurrency security is not one problem. Private-key protection, account permissions, vendor data access and the trust placed in external infrastructure all create separate paths to loss or disruption. It is possible for a blockchain to function correctly while a wallet, exchange partner or software runtime still exposes users to avoidable risk. Coverage should identify the affected layer and the controls available to limit harm. Broad statements that funds are safe or a patch exists are useful, but informed readers also need to know the limits of those assurances.

The strongest security response usually looks operational rather than spectacular: inventory exposed systems, restrict unnecessary access, apply verified patches, monitor unusual activity and explain the incident accurately to affected users. Claims of an exploit should not be made when only a possible vulnerability has been identified. At the same time, the absence of a confirmed theft does not eliminate the need for remediation. Trust comes from a provider’s ability to document its response and maintain reliable controls across the third parties and components on which its service depends.

What the headline does not establish

The group cites more than 190 corporate members, while Bron’s release places the membership within a wider effort to promote Hedera adoption. Those broad community totals should not be interpreted as Bron’s own customer numbers or new onchain transaction volume. Similarly, supporting an asset in a wallet does not certify the risk of every third-party swap route offered through an interface. Independent security assessments, clear transaction previews and reliable recovery options will matter far more to users than ecosystem affiliation alone.

What to watch next

Watch for specific technical integrations, independent security disclosures and measurable user adoption resulting from the association membership. Those will determine whether the partnership changes the practical experience of holding Hedera assets.

FalconX Backs $250M Credit Facility for Ibis as Crypto Lending Infrastructure Evolves

29 October 2026 at 17:00

TL;DR: Onchain credit company Ibis emerged from stealth on October 28, announcing a $250 million credit facility with FalconX and a pre-seed funding round. For a crypto market accustomed to cycles of unsecured or poorly understood lending, the phrase institutional credit needs to be earned.

Onchain credit company Ibis emerged from stealth on October 28, announcing a $250 million credit facility with FalconX and a pre-seed funding round. The company says its initial borrowers will include eligible firms active in crypto trading and capital markets. Anchorage Digital Bank is named as a custody, banking and design partner, with other investors and advisers supporting the business. A committed credit facility defines potential lending capacity; it should not be reported as $250 million of loans already originated or as the company’s cash revenue.

The event and the market response

Ibis plans to originate, structure, tokenize, service and manage risk for institutional credit agreements. Its pitch is that digital-asset trading businesses can have sophisticated revenue and collateral profiles while conventional lenders lack frameworks to evaluate them. Combining underwriting with tokenized records may make credit positions easier to track or distribute to capital providers, but the economic risk does not disappear when documents become digital. The borrower’s ability to repay, enforceable collateral arrangements and a lender’s rights in default remain the basis of the product.

Why the development matters to the crypto market

For a crypto market accustomed to cycles of unsecured or poorly understood lending, the phrase institutional credit needs to be earned. A $250 million headline may suggest confidence, but lending discipline depends on covenants, concentration limits and transparent collateral controls when markets fall. Ibis’s structure could support a more professional market if those protections work in practice. The key distinction is between credit availability as an announcement and durable repayment performance through a stressful trading environment.

The distinction between a blockchain record and the economic rights behind it is crucial for anyone evaluating this news. Digital tokens may move quickly, but title, custody, investor eligibility and redemption remain governed by legal agreements and regulated entities. A new integration should therefore be judged by the processes it can complete end to end, not simply by the number of assets it can represent. Traders also need to resist treating institutional enthusiasm as an automatic bullish signal for a native cryptocurrency: commercial adoption and token pricing can diverge for long periods.

What the headline does not establish

The press release says the platform may expand beyond crypto markets into other capital-hungry technology segments, including computing infrastructure and robotics. Those ambitions are not the same as live lending programs in each field. The confirmed starting point is the FalconX facility, the backing of named partners and Ibis’s proposed credit platform. Important details not fully specified in the announcement include loan pricing, advance rates, eligibility tests, actual utilization and how a tokenized claim would behave under insolvency. Institutions will demand clarity on those issues.

What to watch next

Track how much of the facility is drawn, the types of collateral accepted and evidence of repayments or portfolio performance. Those details will establish whether the structure becomes a repeatable market rather than an attractive launch headline.

Bitwise Sees Bitcoin at $1.6 Million by 2036, but the Forecast Has Big Assumptions

29 October 2026 at 16:00

TL;DR: Bitwise Asset Management has raised its long-range Bitcoin price projection to $1.6 million by 2036 in its 2027 capital-market assumptions. The headline will attract attention because it implies a dramatic rise from current levels, but the market should distinguish an investment thesis from a catalyst.

Bitwise Asset Management has raised its long-range Bitcoin price projection to $1.6 million by 2036 in its 2027 capital-market assumptions. The firm models annualized growth of 34.3% over the coming decade, based on institutional allocations, demand for scarce assets and constrained new issuance. It says this is an increase from a previous $1.3 million target. A forecast is not a traded price, and those numbers reflect the manager’s own scenario rather than an independently established future outcome. Investors should read the projection alongside the assumptions that could make it wrong.

The event and the market response

Among the inputs Bitwise highlights is the scale of institutional portfolios, which the firm places around $147 trillion. It argues that a potential allocation of 1% to 5% could imply between $1.5 trillion and $7 trillion of additional demand over time. Those figures are hypothetical allocations, not capital already committed to Bitcoin. The supply argument is more mechanical, reflecting the issuance schedule of the network, but price still depends on buyers and sellers at each moment. Supply scarcity alone cannot determine a future dollar valuation.

Why the development matters to the crypto market

The headline will attract attention because it implies a dramatic rise from current levels, but the market should distinguish an investment thesis from a catalyst. Bitwise has an interest in institutional Bitcoin adoption and its report is intended for long-horizon capital planning. Near-term traders still face macroeconomic news, ETF flows and leverage-driven price moves that may bear little resemblance to a ten-year projection. The proper use of a model this ambitious is to test sensitivities, not to treat the endpoint as a guaranteed destination.

The connection between digital assets and traditional finance is now too substantial for investors to ignore. Dollar financing rates, the appetite for technology shares, brokerage activity and institutional allocation decisions can all influence crypto demand. None of those relationships is fixed, however: correlation changes as investors rotate between risk and cash. Using a single session to support a dramatic long-term prediction is tempting but unreliable. Readers are better served by a sober distinction between published facts, market observations and forecasts that depend on uncertain assumptions.

What the headline does not establish

The manager also argues that Bitcoin’s characteristic four-year swings may moderate as ownership becomes more institutional. It points to a drawdown in 2026 that it portrays as shallower than previous historical cycles. That observation is compatible with maturation, but it does not establish that leverage, liquidity shocks or regulation can no longer produce violent corrections. Bitwise itself expects volatility to continue. An investor considering the model should ask what happens if adoption grows more slowly, institutions reduce positions, or other stores of value remain more attractive.

What to watch next

Readers can evaluate the forecast as new institutional ownership data, ETF flows and corporate treasury disclosures emerge. A useful check is whether the evidence matches the modeled adoption path rather than whether Bitcoin briefly moves closer to the final price target.
