Dogecoin Expands Utility as Robinhood Memecoin Boom Reveals Crypto’s Biggest Adoption Engine

22 October 2026 at 04:29

The launch of Dogecoin Labs, Shiba Inu’s expansion across blockchain networks, and Robinhood Chain’s memecoin trading activity highlight a question: are memecoins becoming one of crypto’s most effective on-chain adoption engines?

Memecoins are often dismissed as speculative assets with little purpose beyond price movements. But their role in crypto could be more important than their critics acknowledge: they can attract users to blockchain networks and introduce them to crypto beyond trading.

Dogecoin Pushes Beyond Its Meme Origins

Dogecoin Labs brings together MyDoge, the DogeOS application platform, and Such App, a merchant payments product, under a coordinated initiative associated with the Dogecoin Foundation.

Dogecoin Labs is here.

One team building the future of Doge: DogeOS, the MyDoge wallet, and everything that comes next.

The products target wallets, applications, and payments, showing an effort to make Dogecoin useful beyond buying and selling DOGE.

The challenge is converting community recognition into sustained adoption. Still, the initiative illustrates how a project that began as a joke can pursue a broader role in the crypto economy.

Shiba Inu offers another example of a memecoin project seeking opportunities beyond its original community. Its expansion through additional blockchain infrastructure, including Solana via Wormhole’s Sunrise gateway, creates more opportunities for SHIB to reach new users and applications.

My own journey into crypto reflects this shift. Although I entered the market through Bitcoin, I initially approached crypto much like the stock market, focusing on prices and investment returns. It was Shiba Inu that opened my eyes to on-chain crypto, showing me that the industry offered far more than simply buying an asset and waiting for its value to rise.

This matters because memecoins can motivate users to connect wallets, explore decentralized exchanges, and discover blockchain applications they might never have encountered otherwise. The meme attracts attention; the underlying technology can open the door to a much broader ecosystem.

Robinhood Chain And The Memecoin’s Influence

Robinhood Chain offers a revealing example of speculative demand shaping blockchain activity. The network was designed to support tokenized assets, including stocks and real-world assets. Yet memecoin trading has also played a significant role in its early activity, illustrating how speculative markets can attract traders and liquidity to infrastructure built for broader financial applications.

However, that activity has proved volatile. Fortune reported on October 6 that trading volume in memecoin–stock-token pairs had fallen 96% from its early-September peak. The decline highlights the challenge facing blockchain developers: attracting traders is one thing, but retaining them after speculative excitement fades is another.

Even so, memecoins can serve as an entry point. Users who arrive to trade tokens may eventually explore decentralized finance, self-custody, payments, and other blockchain applications. Whether that transition happens at scale requires more evidence, but the potential deserves serious attention.

Can Dogecoin Turn Speculation Into Adoption?

Dogecoin, Shiba Inu and Robinhood Chain illustrate different sides of the same trend. Memecoins can create communities, attract attention and encourage people to interact with blockchain infrastructure.

The key question is whether projects can turn that initial interest into lasting participation. For Dogecoin, that means growing activity across wallets, applications and payments. For SHIB, broader network access must translate into sustained engagement. For Robinhood Chain, the challenge is converting speculative trading into durable demand for tokenized assets and other applications.

Memecoins may not be the final destination for every crypto user, but they could be the doorway through which more people discover what crypto can actually do.

Cardano Puts Real-World Usage At The Centre Of New Catalyst Grants

20 October 2026 at 08:25

TL;DR: Cardano is highlighting a 12-team Catalyst pilot in which much of the grant funding depends on real adoption rather than merely launching a project.

Crypto grant programmes have a familiar problem: it’s easier to count funded ideas than products anyone actually uses. Cardano’s Project Catalyst has been trying a different approach with its 2026 pilot cohort, which is now being highlighted again by the ecosystem.

The original selection announcement came on September 24. Twelve teams were chosen from 117 applications, covering areas including stablecoin payments, lending, programmable tokens, identity and supply-chain applications. The pool was designed around roughly two million ADA in grant funding.

The more interesting detail is how teams get paid. Catalyst says 40% of an approved grant is released after onboarding, while the rest is linked to adoption targets and continued use. That asks recipients to demonstrate something after deployment, rather than treating a completed build as the final measure of success.

The programme also involved 52 active community curators, with specialist reviewers examining the business and technical case for applications.

None of that proves that the selected projects will succeed. There is a difference between promising measurable use and demonstrating it on-chain, and the pilot will ultimately be judged on the latter.

Still, the funding model gives Cardano a concrete experiment to watch: can distributing ADA on the basis of usage deliver better outcomes than the traditional grant cycle?

Beyond HODLing: How Bitcoin-Backed Loans Can Unlock New Financial Opportunities

Beyond HODLing: How Bitcoin-Backed Loans Can Unlock New Financial Opportunities

For long-term Bitcoin holders, accessing capital has traditionally presented a difficult choice: sell a portion of their holdings or leave that value untouched.

Bitcoin-backed lending offers another option, allowing holders to borrow against their Bitcoin while maintaining exposure to the asset.

In a recent video shared on X, SALT Lending highlighted how borrowers can use Bitcoin-backed loans for more than simply accessing cash, outlining several ways liquidity can support broader financial goals.

Bitcoin-backed loan = liquidity without selling.

Real estate. Business growth. Diversification.

Keep your long-term position. Put capital to work.

The key is intentionality.#SALT #SALTLending #Bitcoin pic.twitter.com/iZ8xY7oIJG

β€” SALT (@SALTLending) October 14, 2026

Turning Bitcoin Holdings Into Financial Opportunity

Rather than selling Bitcoin to fund a major purchase or investment, borrowers can pledge their holdings as collateral to access capital while preserving their long-term position.

One potential use case is real estate. Bitcoin holders looking to purchase property may be able to leverage their holdings for liquidity instead of liquidating Bitcoin to fund the transaction.

Business expansion presents another opportunity. Entrepreneurs and business owners can potentially use Bitcoin-backed loans to fund operations, hire employees, or pursue growth opportunities without selling their Bitcoin or giving up equity in their businesses.

SALT Lending also pointed to investment diversification as another possible application. Borrowers may use loan proceeds to access other markets or investment opportunities while retaining exposure to Bitcoin.

Another consideration is tax planning. Selling appreciated Bitcoin can trigger capital gains taxes, while receiving proceeds from a properly structured loan generally does not constitute a taxable sale. However, individual tax circumstances vary, and borrowing introduces additional financial risks.

A Strategic Approach to Bitcoin Liquidity

The broader takeaway from SALT Lending’s video is that Bitcoin-backed borrowing should be viewed as a financial planning decision rather than simply a way to access cash.

Real estate purchases, business investments, and other opportunities all require borrowers to weigh the potential benefits of liquidity against borrowing costs, repayment obligations, and the risks associated with Bitcoin’s price volatility.

Because Bitcoin-backed loans are secured by a volatile asset, significant price declines can increase loan-to-value ratios and potentially require additional collateral or trigger liquidation, depending on the loan terms.

For borrowers with a clear financial strategy, however, the ability to access capital without immediately selling Bitcoin creates another avenue for putting their holdings to use.

SALT Lending provides Bitcoin-backed lending solutions designed to help eligible borrowers access liquidity while maintaining their long-term Bitcoin exposure.

As Bitcoin continues to evolve beyond an asset primarily associated with buying and holding, lending may play an increasingly important role in how holders manage their finances and pursue opportunities without necessarily selling their Bitcoin.

BlackRock Tokenization Push Gathers Pace as Wall Street Races to Tokenize Assets

20 October 2026 at 04:34

BlackRock BUIDL tokenization on a tokenized money-market fund has grown to about US$2.3 billion since its 2024 launch, while the asset manager explores whether tokenized fund shares can serve as collateral in traditional finance, beyond crypto markets.

BlackRock’s tokenized funds are already being used as collateral in digital-asset markets, according to Dan Maley, who oversees the firm’s cash business in Asia Pacific. The proposed next step is to connect that existing use to Wall Street’s broader financing and margin systems, where conventional money-market funds already support trading positions.

β€” Coin Bureau (@coinbureau) October 19, 2026

Tokenization changes the rails on which ownership moves, rather than what a money-market fund holds. Shares represented as tokens could pass between approved investors without a cash redemption first, potentially letting institutions keep money invested while transferring ownership or pledging a position.

Traditional money-market funds already serve as collateral for trading positions, including initial and variation margin. If tokenized shares can be accepted within those arrangements, institutions could transfer or post fund interests without first redeeming them into cash, potentially reducing friction when reallocating collateral.

But round-the-clock transfers do not mean round-the-clock cash redemptions. The operational gap is still material: ownership may move on-chain while the fund’s redemption process remains governed by its own terms and operating arrangements.

For traditional-finance use, banks and other institutions would need to accept the instruments as collateral, existing market infrastructure would need to accommodate them, and regulation would need to provide sufficient legal certainty.

Legal Certainty and Market Plumbing

The International Monetary Fund has identified fragmented platforms, legal uncertainty and difficulties connecting tokenized finance to existing infrastructure as problems for the sector. Those constraints affect whether a token can operate across counterparties and systems, not simply whether it can be transferred on its originating blockchain.

BlackRock tokenised funds are already collateral in tokenization markets, but Wall Street use depends on legal and institutional acceptance.

The International Swaps and Derivatives Association has also identified custody and segregation frameworks, capital and margin treatment, cross-border recognition and legal certainty as issues requiring industry standards and regulatory clarity. Scott O’Malia, the association’s chief executive, described those areas as necessary to address for tokenized assets to cross into traditional finance.

For institutional collateral, the practical test is whether a tokenized share retains clear legal treatment when it moves between parties, jurisdictions, and existing systems. A successful transfer on-chain solves only one part of that process; counterparties also need defined rights and operating procedures when collateral is posted, valued or returned.

BlackRock BUIDL’s Scale Meets a Different Tokenization Test

BUIDL’s US$2.3 billion tokenization scale gives BlackRock an established product around which to develop tokenized-fund use cases. Scale can attract institutional attention, but collateral utility ultimately depends on acceptance by the firms that hold, manage and receive assets in financial transactions.

Early users largely came from crypto markets, including stablecoin holders seeking yield, according to Nikhil Sharma, a director on BlackRock’s digital-assets team. The initial customer base therefore reflects an on-chain demand for cash-like yield; expansion into conventional markets would require a different network of counterparties and operating arrangements.

BlackRock tokenised funds are already collateral in tokenization markets, but Wall Street use depends on legal and institutional acceptance.
Nikhil Sharma, BlackRock

This transition is part of a broader shift in how tokenized assets are being considered: not only as digital representations of stocks, bonds or money-market funds, but as instruments that could alter how assets move through financial markets.

For BlackRock, tokenized funds may eventually support collateral workflows as well as crypto-market activity, provided that institutional systems can recognize and process them.

The near-term focus is on the acceptance layer: bank recognition, infrastructure compatibility, and rules governing custody, margin, and cross-border treatment. Until those pieces are in place, tokenized fund shares remain a live collateral tool in digital-asset markets and a proposed extension into traditional finance.

Now Accepting Bitcoin: Gyros, Cocas, and 219 Arizona Bitcoin Merchants

In 2025 the state government passed a Strategic Arizona Bitcoin Reserve, but I understand the state still hasn’t bought any coins. We can’t wait for the government to use bitcoin before we use it, or it will never happen.

The question is, can a normal person walk into a shop and pay with bitcoin? I have some friends in Scottsdale who have never used bitcoin in real life, so I asked them to test it. I recommended downloading a lightning wallet, sent them some satoshis, and sent them the BTC Map. They were surprised how easy it was to download a wallet and move satoshis across the internet; it felt very natural and how money should be, they said.

First Stop: Pita Cafe (23535 N Scottsdale Rd #102, Scottsdale, AZ 85255)

Their first stop was Pita Cafe, a Mediterranean spot attached to Scottsdale Burger Bar. Both accept bitcoin. My friends came back raving about the food: everything is made fresh to order, and they say to get the spanakopita and the gyro pita. The place was packed at lunch, but service stayed fast with plenty of seating.

The cashier wasn’t sure at first whether they took bitcoin. Then he noticed the Square terminal was already set up for it, and the payment went through quickly. It was his first time seeing customers pay in bitcoin, and he was excited about it. My friends also told me he looked at the amount on the screen and said he was shocked that they’d just paid β€œ22,000 bitcoin”. They walked out feeling like royalty.

Next Up Echo Coffee (2902 N 68th Street, Ste. 135 Scottsdale, Arizona 85251)

Next they got hot cocoa at Echo Coffee. This cashier didn’t need to figure anything out. She knew they accepted bitcoin, switched the terminal over, and asked my friend to scan the QR code. She told them she thinks it’s super cool every time someone asks about it. Echo also donates 1% of purchases to the humane society, and the coffee bags have puppies on them.Β

Why this matters

It’s a blast to send your loved ones out to a store along with some bitcoin to spend. Some friends already have bitcoin in investment portfolios, but the act of spending btc for tangible items shows what this movement is all about.Β

As always, a growing directory of over 219 verified Bitcoin-accepting merchants across Arizona is listed below. If you want your business added to the list, or if you have a new city and story to feature in an upcoming column, write directly to vagabond@b.tc.

Coinbase Calls for Early Bitcoin Migration to Quantum Security

14 October 2026 at 08:34

Coinbase, which safeguards 5% of all Bitcoin for clients including banks, asset managers, and hedge funds, wants the network to begin preparing for quantum security. The threat is prospective, but the harder question is whether Bitcoin can coordinate a gradual technical migration before that changes.

Bitcoin transactions rely on digital signatures to demonstrate that a spender controls the relevant funds. The network uses ECDSA and Schnorr signature schemes, which remain secure against the computing systems available today.

A sufficiently capable quantum computer could change that by deriving a private key from an exposed public key, potentially allowing an attacker to spend vulnerable coins.

β€” Wu Blockchain (@WuBlockchain) October 13, 2026

A machine able to break cryptographic systems in this way is commonly described as a cryptographically relevant quantum computer, or CRQC. The source report cites Google researchers’ projection that such a machine could exist by 2029.

The migration challenge is structural. Bitcoin’s decentralized design means consensus changes require broad coordination, while wallets, custodians, and other services also need time to implement and test new security. Coinbase’s argument is that work should begin well before any CRQC announcement, rather than waiting for an emergency to set the schedule.

The timing matters: quantum computing is not currently shown to be breaking Bitcoin’s signatures, but the transition itself could take years. Starting preparation now would create room to evaluate designs and upgrade infrastructure; it would not mean that users face an immediate, confirmed quantum attack.

Coinbase Bitcoin Quantum Priorities Leave the Design Open

Coinbase wants transaction outputs, the structures that define how funds can be spent-to support new post-quantum cryptography without requiring Bitcoin to rebuild its transaction system each time signature methods change.

Flexible outputs could allow quantum-resistant signatures to be added, replaced, or combined as the technology and security assessment evolve. The exchange points to P2MR, associated with BIP-360, and P2TRv2 as examples under consideration.

It also favors staged protection over a forced switch in a single step. One possible hybrid arrangement would let the same funds be spent using either a traditional ECDSA or Schnorr key, or a post-quantum key.

Coinbase urges early Bitcoin preparation for post quantum cryptography, while designs, migration rules, and legacy coins remain unresolved.

This could let users move to stronger protection ahead of a full transition, although Coinbase’s recommendation does not settle the design or the rules for eventually retiring older signature methods.

Signature schemes that require wallets to track state need particular scrutiny. If a wallet loses or mishandles records of previously used signing keys, reuse could create a path to forged signatures. Coinbase therefore wants stateless alternatives available alongside stateful designs, so wallet operators are not left with only schemes that depend on flawless record-keeping.

Implementation quality is another requirement, not a secondary engineering detail. Coinbase calls for consistent verification across platforms, protection against timing leaks, clear settings, and resilience if the random-number generator used in signing fails.

Those controls aim to reduce the chance that an ostensibly quantum-resistant upgrade introduces exploitable software or wallet weaknesses; broader wallet security risks underline why implementation matters alongside cryptographic design.

Institutional adoption adds another constraint. Coinbase says post quantum Bitcoin schemes should work with multiparty computation (MPC), which allows organizations to distribute key operations rather than depend on one person or device. A design that works only for individual wallets could leave exchanges, custodians, and large businesses with a slower or less practical migration path.

How About Dormant and Lost Bitcoin?

btc logo
Bitcoin (BTC)
24h7d30d1yAll time

A later restriction or retirement of ECDSA and Schnorr spending could leave some funds in older formats. Some dormant wallets may belong to owners who have lost their keys, while certain older address types have exposed public keys. Coinbase warns that a covert attacker with a CRQC could target vulnerable coins before the capability becomes public.

Coinbase does not endorse a particular treatment for dormant, quantum exposed, or lost Bitcoin. It argues that the question should be debated separately so disagreement over those funds does not delay technical protections for users who can migrate; any rescue mechanism would also need to be quantum-safe.

The immediate development task, then, is not to declare one output type or signature scheme the winner. It is to assess flexible designs, implementation risks, and institutional compatibility while keeping the politically difficult legacy-coin debate from becoming a prerequisite for starting the broader upgrade work.

Standard Chartered Launched UAE Crypto Trading

14 October 2026 at 05:17

Standard Chartered launched a crypto trading service in the UAE on 14 October, allowing eligible Professional Investor clients to buy and sell Bitcoin and Ethereum through their existing bank accounts. The launch shifts access to the two assets into a regulated banking relationship, with custody and settlement handled inside the bank’s own closed-loop ecosystem.

Standard Chartered describes the crypto service as a global first for the bank and the first offering of its kind by an international bank in the UAE.

Clients will access Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) through their existing Standard Chartered accounts, without needing separate wallets or third-party trading platforms, according to the bank’s announcement. Trades are executed within its ecosystem, where Standard Chartered manages custody and settlement end to end.

The closed-loop structure is intended to reduce exposure to risks associated with third-party wallets. It also places the trading, custody and settlement functions within one banking setup, rather than requiring clients to move assets between a bank and an external crypto provider.

The bank says the offering combines institutional-grade custody, liquidity and client access in a single digital-asset ecosystem. It was developed through collaboration between Standard Chartered’s Wealth and Retail Banking and Corporate and Investment Banking businesses, alongside SC Ventures-backed Zodia Markets.

β€” CoinGecko (@coingecko) September 3, 2026

Samir Subberwal, Standard Chartered’s Global Head of Wealth Solutions, Retail Products, Data & Analytics, said the launch is a significant milestone for the bank as it brings digital assets into its core wealth offering amid growing client interest in digital assets.

The announcement does not specify trading fees, minimum investment amounts, transaction limits, client numbers or expected volumes. Nor does it describe the precise mechanics of execution or disclose whether clients can transfer purchased assets outside the bank’s ecosystem.

UAE Approval, Standard Chartered, and Professional Investors

Standard Chartered says it received licensing approval from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). The initial rollout is restricted to eligible Professional Investor clients in the UAE.

The UAE was selected, Standard Chartered said, because of its approach to innovation, regulatory environment and growing role in digital assets. Rola Abu Manneh, the bank’s Chief Executive Officer for the UAE, Middle East and Pakistan, said:

β€œThe UAE was a natural choice for this launch, given the country’s forward-looking approach to innovation, strong regulatory environment and growing leadership in digital assets.” She also described the UAE as one of the bank’s four global wealth hubs.

The regulatory approval matters to the product’s structure: it places the new service within a UAE-authorised framework, while the Professional Investor restriction narrows who can use it. That distinction is central to the launch. The bank is adding crypto trading to a wealth relationship, but it has not announced a broad consumer product.

Is Another Expansion In the Plan?

The bank says it plans to expand the offering to other markets over time, but has not named a destination or timetable. For now, the disclosed Standard Chartered service covers Bitcoin and Ethereum for eligible Professional Investors in the UAE.

The launch adds direct crypto trading to existing digital-asset access through the bank, which says its broader wealth capabilities already include cryptocurrency ETFs on its cash-equities platform and exposure through structured products and OTC derivatives.

The next concrete milestone will be any announcement identifying where the bank intends to extend this account-based trading model.

Netflix Is Giving SBF Another Stage: What About His Victims?

9 October 2026 at 02:20

Netflix released the trailer for The Altruists on October 8, introducing an eight-episode drama about SBF(Sam Bankman-Fried) and Caroline Ellison ahead of its Nov. 19 debut. Anthony Boyle and Julia Garner play the former FTX chief executive and Alameda Research leader, while the Justice Department’s case records more than $8 billion stolen from customers and a 25-year prison sentence for Bankman-Fried.

Netflix presents SBF and Ellison as ambitious young idealists whose plans to remake finance ended in crimes involving billions of dollars. The trailer follows their relationship and decisions before the collapse of FTX and Alameda, giving the personal dynamic a central place in the story.

The cast also includes Alex Lawther as former Alameda co-chief Sam Trabucco, Matt Rife as former FTX executive Ryan Salame, Karan Soni as Nishad Singh, and Eugene Young as Gary Wang. Paul Reiser plays Bankman-Fried’s father, Joe Bankman; Robin Weigert plays his mother, Barbara Fried; Jennifer Grey plays Ellison’s mother, Sarah Fisher Ellison; and Terry Chen portrays Binance founder Changpeng Zhao.

Graham Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt are the series’s co-showrunners, co-writers, and executive producers, and James Ponsoldt directed the first episode. Higher Ground, the production company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, is also a producer. Netflix says the drama draws inspiration from reporting by New York Magazine.

Is Netflix Romanticizing SBF?

Moore’s account of the characters, as summarized in Netflix’s trailer feature, emphasizes people he views as having begun with charitable intentions before persuading themselves to commit crimes.

Hoyt’s framing highlights how the pair encouraged each other to build a company they believed could change finance, with their relationship contributing to its destruction. Those are the creators’ interpretations of the drama’s characters, not substitutes for the documented financial conduct.

The Justice Department said SBF directed FTX customer deposits to Alameda despite public representations that the funds were safe and separate from company assets. The department said the money financed investments, political contributions, real estate, and repayments of Alameda loans.

It also reported separate losses exceeding $1.7 billion for FTX investors and $1.3 billion for Alameda lenders, figures that should not be combined with the customer-fund total as if they were one measure.

The scale of those failures turns on controls and access, not only on the executives’ personal story. FTX’s customer-fund handling and Alameda’s ability to withdraw from the exchange remain central to the case, while the court-ordered forfeiture is a separate legal matter.

FTX collapsed in November 2022, after which U.S. authorities brought criminal cases against SBF and other executives. Ellison pleaded guilty, cooperated with prosecutors, and testified against him; a jury separately convicted Bankman-Fried on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy.

Judge Lewis Kaplan then sentenced him to 25 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and more than $11 billion in forfeiture.

The Justice Department’s sentencing account says the recovered forfeiture funds were authorized for victim compensation. That does not make the forfeiture order equivalent to customer repayments or the amount of customer losses.

All eight episodes of SBF The Altruists are scheduled to arrive on Netflix on Nov. 19, 2026. The drama will give viewers a compressed relationship-led account; the pending legal development is Bankman-Fried’s request for Supreme Court review, filed after the Second Circuit’s mandate put his 25-year sentence into effect.

Binance Offers 50 USDT Referral Rewards To Expand Its African P2P Merchant Network

8 October 2026 at 17:00

TL;DR: Binance has launched a P2P merchant referral campaign across around 20 African markets. Referrers and qualifying new merchants can each earn 50 USDT if the new merchant completes the required number of trades and reaches at least 10,000 USDT of volume within 30 days.

Binance wants more merchants sitting on the other side of peer-to-peer crypto trades across Africa, and it is paying users to bring them in.

The exchange launched a new P2P referral campaign Thursday offering 50 USDT to both the referrer and a qualifying new merchant.

The promotion runs from October 8 through November 7 and covers a broad group of African markets, including Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and several countries in West and Central Africa.

The reward is not paid simply for sharing a referral link.

A new merchant has to complete at least 10 trades with 10 different counterparties and reach cumulative trading volume of at least 10,000 USDT equivalent within 30 days of registration.

That structure tells you what Binance is actually trying to buy.

It is not registrations.

It is active liquidity.

Peer-to-peer markets work differently from a normal exchange order book.

Merchants quote prices and payment methods directly to users who want to move between local fiat currencies and crypto.

The usefulness of the marketplace depends on having enough reliable merchants available across different banks, payment systems and currencies.

Africa has been one of the strongest regions for that model.

In markets where users face expensive international transfers, currency restrictions or inconsistent access to banking, P2P crypto can provide an alternative route into dollar-denominated assets such as USDT.

That also creates regulatory and operational challenges.

P2P trading can attract fraud, payment disputes and attempts to move money outside established compliance controls.

Binance therefore requires merchants to go through verification and can impose additional business onboarding requirements.

The referral campaign expands the network while keeping those qualification hurdles in place.

Each referrer can earn rewards for a limited number of successful merchant introductions.

Binance says payments will be distributed after the qualifying conditions have been met.

The campaign is another sign that the exchange still sees P2P as a strategic product even as regulated spot exchanges and stablecoin payment apps expand around the world.

A centralized exchange can offer a deep USDT market, but that does not automatically solve the problem of getting local currency into or out of the platform.

P2P merchants fill that last-mile gap.

The model is particularly powerful in countries where conventional crypto payment rails are thin.

Fifty dollars is not an enormous acquisition cost for a merchant capable of generating repeated local trading volume.

For Binance, the math is simple.

More verified merchants mean more payment options, tighter spreads and a better chance that a user can find someone willing to trade when they open the P2P marketplace.

The campaign is paying for the supply side of that network.

Why Bitcoin’s Liquidity Advantage Matters as Institutions Move In

Why Bitcoin’s Liquidity Advantage Matters as Institutions Move In

Bitcoin’s portability, divisibility and accessibility could increasingly distinguish it from traditional stores of value as more institutions enter the market, according to SALT Lending CEO and Co-Founder Shawn Owen.

Speaking on BMTV, Owen pointed to Bitcoin’s resilience while gold and other long-duration assets sold off, arguing that some of Bitcoin’s most basic characteristics give it advantages over competing assets.

β€œIt is easier to buy Bitcoin than gold,” Owen said.

That advantage becomes even more apparent when mobility matters.

β€œIt’s easier to move Bitcoin out of, say, somewhere where you need to leave quickly because there’s unrest in the area than gold,” Owen said. β€œIt’s far more portable and divisible and easy to use than real estate.”

SALT CEO Shawn Owen (@Shawn_OwenJ) on why Bitcoin held up while gold and other long duration assets sold off:

"It is easier to buy Bitcoin than gold."

β€” BMTV (@watchbmtv) October 7, 2026

Bitcoin’s Liquidity Advantage

Gold, real estate and bitcoin can all serve as long-term stores of value, but accessing and moving that value looks very different.

Physical gold requires storage and transportation. Real estate is tied to a specific location and can take time to buy or sell. Bitcoin can be transferred globally and divided into small units without those same physical constraints.

Those characteristics can also give Bitcoin holders more flexibility when they need liquidity.

Rather than selling bitcoin to access dollars, holders can potentially use it as collateral and borrow against its value while maintaining exposure to the underlying asset.

That model becomes particularly relevant if Owen’s longer-term outlook for Bitcoin adoption proves correct.

Institutional FOMO Is Arriving

Owen believes the experience many individual Bitcoin holders have already gone through, discovering Bitcoin and wishing they had gotten involved earlier, may eventually play out among much larger institutions.

β€œEvery human goes through this experience where you learn about Bitcoin and wish you’d been earlier,” Owen said. β€œI think that will be true of sovereigns and banks and institutions of all sizes.”

Banks have taken considerably longer to enter the market, but Owen believes that is beginning to change as many of the hurdles surrounding Bitcoin have been addressed.

β€œBanks have been slow, but are now getting in after all the boxes have been checked,” he said. β€œFOMO is real.”

JUST IN: Salt Lending CEO says sovereign wealth funds and banks are realizing the importance of Bitcoin πŸ‘€

"Every human goes through this experience where you learn about Bitcoin and wish you'd been earlier…I think that will be true of sovereigns and banks of all sizes." πŸš€ pic.twitter.com/2pxKVh1Q2O

β€” Bitcoin Magazine (@BitcoinMagazine) October 7, 2026

Owen cautioned that adoption and price appreciation will not necessarily happen in a straight line. As Bitcoin matures and more capital enters the market, he expects some dampening of its historic volatility.

That does not change his longer-term outlook.

β€œAdoption depends on the time horizon we’re talking about,” Owen said. β€œDampening of volatility, and we will continue to see that, but that doesn’t mean over the next decade we won’t see serious adoption and increase in price.”

β€œNever Sell Your Bitcoin”

That long-term view also shapes how Owen thinks holders should approach their bitcoin.

β€œI have always said never sell your bitcoin,” Owen said. β€œLong term we will continue to see prices increasing significantly in comparison to fiat currencies.”

For holders who share that outlook, selling bitcoin to cover a large purchase, business expense or other liquidity need means giving up future exposure to the bitcoin they sell.

Bitcoin-backed lending provides an alternative.

SALT allows eligible borrowers to use bitcoin as collateral to access cash without selling the underlying bitcoin. Once the loan is repaid, the collateral is returned to the borrower.

The model aligns closely with Owen’s broader thesis. If Bitcoin continues becoming easier to access and more widely adopted by banks, institutions and potentially sovereigns, long-term holders may become increasingly reluctant to sell simply because they need liquidity.

Instead, they can potentially maintain their bitcoin position while accessing the value stored within it.

As Bitcoin adoption expands, the conversation may increasingly move beyond how to acquire bitcoin and toward how holders can use the wealth they have accumulated without necessarily selling the asset.

USDC Transfers Are Coming to Samsung Wallet

8 October 2026 at 04:23

Samsung Electronics America plans to add USDC transfers to Samsung Wallet in the last week of October 2026, extending the stablecoin feature to eligible U.S. Galaxy users across a stated footprint of 82 million compatible devices.

Samsung says users will be able to send USDC from Samsung Wallet to compatible crypto wallets internationally or to qualifying bank accounts in more than 60 countries. Bank recipients may receive funds in local currency, making the service relevant even when they do not have a crypto wallet.

🚨BREAKING: Samsung adds $USDC stablecoin support to Samsung Wallet, with plans to allow CRYPTO payments via Samsung Pay.

The company is positioning the integration as a way to avoid some of the setup associated with stablecoins: users will not need a separate crypto app or to manage private keys themselves. The scale creates a potential distribution channel; adoption will depend on who qualifies, which destinations are supported, and whether users choose the feature over existing payment options.

Samsung Wallet and Its Transfer Fees, Custody, and Network Support

Samsung will not charge a fee for USDC transfers to external compatible wallets, although a receiving wallet provider or exchange may impose its own charge. Transfer speed will depend on blockchain network conditions, and transfers to sanctioned jurisdictions are prohibited.

Bank-account transfers have a different fee structure: charges vary by destination country and amount. Samsung Wallet will display the applicable fee and an estimated delivery time before the sender confirms the transfer; country and recipient-bank eligibility also vary.

Bastion will power the cross-border payment framework, while Coinbase acts as Bastion’s official sub-custodian, safeguarding USDC through Coinbase Prime Vault. Samsung says regulated partners provide the stablecoin accounts, custody, and money movement services; Samsung itself is not a bank, money transmitter, or digital-asset custodian and does not hold customer funds.

Samsung Wallet plans USDC transfers for eligible U.S. users in October 2026, with crypto-wallet and bank payouts across 60 countries.

Compatible Galaxy devices will require biometric authentication to initiate transfers. Samsung names both Solana and Sui among the separate partners providing infrastructure and blockchain-network capabilities.

β€œWe’re bringing USDC transfers into Samsung Wallet so eligible Galaxy users can get started without installing another app or managing private keys themselves,” Woncheol Chai, Samsung’s executive vice president and head of the Digital Wallet Team, said.

Eligibility Applies Before Launch, While Expansion Remains Conditional

The service is limited to eligible U.S. residents aged 18 or older with a Samsung Account and a compatible Galaxy device running Android 13 or higher. Users must complete account registration and identity verification, and set up biometric authentication on the registered device.

When users select β€œBuy Stablecoin,” Samsung says USDC will appear as the default dollar stablecoin. That describes the displayed stablecoin choice, not a complete purchase or cash-out process: the announcement does not detail all funding methods or establish that users can convert between dollars and USDC entirely inside the app.

Users will need to choose a compatible crypto wallet or an eligible bank destination, subject to supported networks, countries, and recipient-account rules. For bank transfers, the fee and estimated delivery time appear before confirmation; partner terms and delivery times apply.

USDC is the first supported stablecoin, with the U.S. launch scheduled for the last week of October across eligible devices. Samsung says future capabilities may include online or in-store tap-to-pay purchases and expansion into additional markets.

Turkish Banking Giant YapΔ± Kredi Builds Regulated Crypto Trading Business

7 October 2026 at 21:00

TL;DR: YapΔ± Kredi Kripto has selected Integral’s digital-asset technology to power pricing, liquidity and risk management for its upcoming regulated crypto trading service in TΓΌrkiye. The launch comes as the country builds a formal licensing framework for digital-asset providers.

One of TΓΌrkiye’s biggest banking groups is preparing to put crypto trading inside regulated financial infrastructure.

YapΔ± Kredi Kripto, the digital-asset business associated with YapΔ± Kredi, has selected Integral to provide technology for its upcoming cryptocurrency trading operation.

Integral’s systems will support pricing, liquidity aggregation and risk management.

In practice, that means the crypto business will be able to connect to sources of market liquidity while managing customer execution and exposure through infrastructure designed for institutional trading.

The timing is important.

TΓΌrkiye is implementing a new regulatory framework for digital-asset service providers, creating a clearer route for established financial institutions to offer cryptocurrency products.

YapΔ± Kredi’s move illustrates what that transition can look like.

Instead of customers being forced to choose between a conventional bank and a standalone crypto exchange, banks themselves can begin building regulated digital-asset businesses.

TΓΌrkiye is an especially significant market for that model.

Crypto adoption in the country has long been driven partly by an appetite for alternative stores of value and active trading.

That produced a large customer base before much of the institutional structure now being built around the sector existed.

Regulation changes the competitive landscape.

Large banks enter the market with existing customer relationships, compliance systems and recognizable brands.

Crypto-native exchanges, meanwhile, bring years of product experience and a culture of 24/7 trading.

YapΔ± Kredi Kripto will need both institutional-grade infrastructure and a user experience capable of competing with established digital-asset platforms.

Integral’s role is focused on the infrastructure side.

The company specializes in electronic trading technology and liquidity connectivity, giving YapΔ± Kredi a way to build the execution layer without creating every component internally.

The partnership also highlights a broader pattern.

Bank adoption of crypto is increasingly moving away from experimental pilots and toward operational services.

Customers do not care whether a bank has published a blockchain research paper.

They care whether they can actually buy, sell and hold assets.

YapΔ± Kredi is now building toward that stage.

And in a market as crypto-active as TΓΌrkiye, the arrival of major banks could reshape who ultimately controls the relationship with digital-asset customers.

Moomoo Taps CROSSx To Bring Institutional-Grade Crypto Execution To Retail Traders

7 October 2026 at 15:00

TL;DR: Moomoo is integrating Crossover Markets’ CROSSx electronic communication network into its US crypto offering. The infrastructure offers sub-10-microsecond matching and will connect Moomoo’s retail interface with a broader network of digital-asset liquidity providers.

Retail traders rarely see the machinery sitting behind the buy and sell buttons on a crypto platform.

Moomoo is upgrading that machinery.

The trading platform has partnered with Crossover Markets to integrate CROSSx, an execution-only digital asset electronic communication network, into its US crypto offering.

CROSSx is built to match institutional digital asset orders at extremely low latency.

Crossover says its engine delivers sub-10-microsecond order-to-ack matching times and is designed to continue handling order flow during periods when crypto markets become particularly volatile.

Moomoo will connect its customer-facing trading interface to that infrastructure.

The company serves more than 30 million investors globally across its various markets, meaning the partnership potentially brings technology originally built around institutional execution to a very large retail distribution channel.

The appeal is straightforward.

Retail crypto platforms do not simply need a clean app.

They need liquidity behind that app.

When markets move quickly, the quality of routing, matching and available counterparties can affect how efficiently an order is filled and how closely execution matches the price displayed when a trader presses the button.

CROSSx operates from the NY4 data-center environment and connects market participants through its matching and routing technology.

Moomoo said the integration is intended to strengthen the reliability of its digital-asset execution as it expands crypto services for US customers.

That fits a broader trend in online brokerage.

Platforms that historically specialized in stocks increasingly want users to trade crypto without leaving the same account and interface.

Once that happens, expectations change.

Customers who are accustomed to mature equity-market execution are less likely to tolerate weak liquidity or unstable crypto infrastructure simply because the asset class is newer.

Crossover co-founder Anthony Mazzarese said the partnership reflects the shift toward platforms selecting specialized technology for each part of the trading lifecycle.

That may ultimately be the most interesting part of the deal.

Crypto exchanges once tried to build virtually every component of the trading stack themselves.

The market is increasingly beginning to look more like traditional finance, where specialized firms provide execution, custody, clearing, data and liquidity infrastructure behind the scenes.

Moomoo is betting that retail crypto users will benefit from that same architecture.

Binance Pay Offers 20% Mobile Top-Up Discount Across 10 Markets

6 October 2026 at 12:01

TL;DR

  • Binance Pay has launched a limited mobile top-up promotion in 10 countries.
  • Eligible users can receive a 20% instant discount on their first qualifying top-up, capped at 3 USDT equivalent.
  • The campaign runs from October 5 through October 19 and applies only to supported users and operators.

Binance Pay is using mobile airtime to push crypto spending into a very ordinary consumer transaction.

The payment service has launched a promotion offering eligible users a 20% discount on their first qualifying mobile top-up in 10 supported countries.

The discount is capped at the equivalent of 3 USDT and requires a minimum top-up of 1 USDT equivalent.

The Campaign Targets Markets Where Mobile Credit Matters

The offer is available to verified users in Bangladesh, Senegal, the UAE, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kenya, Algeria and Egypt.

Those markets are very different, but they share one useful characteristic for a crypto payments experiment: prepaid mobile services remain important to large parts of the population.

A mobile top-up is also easier to understand than many crypto payment use cases.

Users already know what they are buying. Binance Pay simply becomes the settlement method behind the purchase.

That makes the promotion a practical test of whether existing crypto balances can be used for recurring, low-value expenses rather than only trading or remittances.

The 20% Headline Comes With A Small Cap

The promotion sounds generous, but the cap is important.

A user can receive up to 20% off only on the first eligible transaction, and the benefit is capped at 3 USDT equivalent.

That makes this a user-acquisition campaign rather than a permanently subsidized telecom product.

The promotion runs until October 19 or until the allocated rewards are exhausted.

Still, the feature underneath the discount matters more than the discount itself.

Crypto payment adoption becomes more credible when users can spend from a digital-asset balance on services they already purchase regularly.

Mobile airtime fits that category.

The challenge for Binance will be keeping users on the payment rail after the rebate disappears.

If top-up volume remains healthy without the promotion, that would be a stronger signal that the service has found genuine utility rather than simply attracting users who wanted 3 USDT of savings.

OKX Money Launches Stablecoin Savings And Cards In Standalone App

6 October 2026 at 12:01

TL;DR

  • OKX has launched OKX Money, a standalone app focused on saving, sending and spending dollar-backed stablecoins.
  • The app combines eligible yield features with virtual and physical cards in supported markets.
  • OKX is targeting users who want dollar access without relying on a traditional foreign bank account.

OKX is taking stablecoins out of the exchange interface and putting them into a standalone consumer finance app.

OKX Money launched on October 6 with a pitch built around three ordinary financial jobs: save, send and spend digital dollars.

The app combines stablecoin balances, eligible earning features and payment cards rather than centering the experience on active crypto trading.

The Product Is A Bet On Stablecoins As Everyday Dollars

The exchange says the product is aimed particularly at people living in markets where access to U.S. dollars is expensive or inconvenient.

That could mean high foreign-exchange fees, limited access to dollar bank accounts or local currencies that lose purchasing power more quickly than users would like.

Stablecoins have already become a workaround for some of those problems.

OKX Money packages that behavior into a more conventional financial interface, with virtual and physical cards designed to make balances spendable at ordinary merchants.

OKX says foreign-exchange fees can add 2% to 5% to international purchases in some markets. The company is positioning digital-dollar balances as a way to reduce that friction.

A Consumer App Changes The Competitive Set

OKX built its name as a crypto exchange, but OKX Money competes as much with fintech apps and cross-border banking products as it does with other exchanges.

That changes what success looks like.

The user does not need to trade a perpetual contract or buy an altcoin for the app to be useful. They may simply want to hold dollar exposure, send money internationally or pay with a card.

Availability remains market-dependent, and stablecoin balances are not the same thing as insured bank deposits.

Yield features also introduce their own terms and risks.

Still, the product reflects a broader change in crypto.

Exchanges increasingly see stablecoins as a route into everyday financial services rather than merely the settlement asset users keep between trades.

If OKX Money gains traction, the company may find that the most mainstream part of its crypto business is the part where users barely think about crypto at all.

Now Accepting Bitcoin: Buy Coffee and Bacon Across 200 Indiana Bitcoin Merchants

Now Accepting Bitcoin: Buy Coffee and Bacon Across 200 Indiana Bitcoin Merchants

My trip into the Indiana Bitcoin market started at Kaffeine Coffee Co. on Fulton Street. The coffee was tasty, but my real surprise was running into a local Bitcoiner who was also paying for his order in satoshis, making me feel like not such a rare breed in this fiat world.

The friend I made shared about a network of Indiana merchants the Indianapolis local Indy Bitcoin Group has been orange pilling.Β

First Up: Old Major Market LLC (Artisan Meats)

A common complaint of merchant Bitcoin adoption is that the shop owners will liquidate 100% of their Bitcoin back into cash using payment processors like Square. This is true to start, but a fascinating shift occurs once a business owner reads about bitcoin. Old Major LLC, an artisan meat distributor based in Indianapolis, is a prime example of that shift.

The Big Update for Indiana Bitcoin

According to owner Mark LaFay, Starting in 2026, Old Major Market made a major strategic decision: they are keeping 100% of the Bitcoin they receive directly on their balance sheet. They realized that holding bitcoin opens up significant long-term upside.

Big shout out to the Bitcoiners in Central Indiana that have been stopping by Old Major for over a year to buy bacon, sausages, and specialty meats with sats. While the shop originally agreed to accept Bitcoin and instantly converted every transaction to cash, the steady stream of Bitcoin payments caught their attention.

The β€œ1% Orange Pill” Math

When a dedicated community directs its routine spending toward supportive merchants, the business case for the owner becomes undeniable:

  • The Baseline: A local merchant generating $1 Million in annual revenue with a 10% profit margin brings home $100,000 in net profit.
  • The 1% New Customer Shift: If local Bitcoiners represent just 1% of total sales, that’s $10,000 in annual Bitcoin transactions. If the owner sells the coins, regret creeps in, β€œwhat if I held the coins?”…
  • The BTC Holding Strategy: Let’s assume the store instead decides to hold that Bitcoin in 2026, and BTC doubles in value this year. Holding the coins increases the owner’s total annual profit +20% to $120,000.

That financial reality is the ultimate orange pill. A focused group of customers directing their commerce toward open-minded owners can move the needle for merchant adoption, whether the owner holds from day one or learns along the way that they are missing profit.

Notable Mentions: Local Indy Staples: Coffee & Wine

  • Kaffeine Coffee Co. (Downtown Indy): Third Wave craft coffee meets native Bitcoin rails. Meeting fellow Bitcoiners at the counter proves how coffee hubs act as the natural gateway for real-world community building.
  • The Rejoicing Vine (Northwest Indy): A mission-driven winery specializing in sparkling wines that doubles as the host spot for local β€œLightning Socials”. Owner Brent Kumfer agreed to accept Bitcoin over a year ago through Square, enjoying zero processing fees and a steady stream of local Bitcoiner events. They are not yet holding bitcoin, but they are considering it.

Have a Story or a Local Merchant Network to Feature?

Now Accepting Bitcoin: Coljac CafΓ© Bitcoin Hub with 40+ Nearby Missouri Merchants

When I heard of the Coljac CafΓ© Bitcoin acceptance, I expected to write a quaint little piece about a small-town coffee shop trying something quirky. I was completely wrong. What I found in Farmington, Missouri wasn’t just a place to grab a morning espresso, it was the undisputed heart of an entire regional monetary movement.Β

Pioneer Status: Coljac CafΓ© in Missouri Bitcoin Acceptance

When local Bitcoiners started dropping in, grabbing tables, and hosting informal meetups at the Farmington shop, ownership was willing to listen. The shop’s owner and the local bitcoiners worked together and integrated Coinos.io, giving her register native Bitcoin and Lightning functionality. Their register has since been updated to Square who officially crossed 1 million vendors accepting bitcoin.Β That willingness to embrace her customers has paid off in measurable revenue:

  • The Baseline: On the annual income last year, Bitcoin transactions account for roughly 5% of her total business.
  • Meetup Takeovers: On weekends when the local Bitcoiner group hosts an event at the Farmington location, Bitcoin payments skyrocket to an astonishing 50% of her entire morning sales volume.
  • 0% fees on transactions beats the pants off credit cards.

Today, a β€œBitcoin Accepted Here” sign sits right on the counter. Sure, 95% of her day-to-day customers still hand over credit cards or cash, but that sign has become a beacon. As Jessica has grown more aware of the monetary shift, she’s become genuinely happy to educate curious locals who stop to ask about it over their morning drip.

The Coljac CafΓ© Bitcoin Sprouting Effect

Here is where the story gets really wild. The Coljac CafΓ© Bitcoin story didn’t just stay an isolated island accepting sats, it became the focal gathering point that catalyzed an entire local circular economy in and south of St. Louis. Because Col Jac’s created a safe landing pad for Bitcoiners, the surrounding community started taking notice. Now, the momentum is spreading across the region:

  • 1. Grassroots Food & Farmers: The standout here is the Milkmen Farms Alliance, running weekly delivery routes for raw milk, eggs, and meat directly to St. Louis doorsteps. Paired with local producers like Hale Family Farm and Ozark Prime Beef, you can fill your fridge on a hard-money standard while farmers hedge against inflation.
  • 2. Leisure & Traveler Lodging: For recreation and overnight stays, Cherrywood Golf Course in Fredericktown lets you pay for 18 holes, drinks, and on-site lodging in sats. Further along the trail, The Station at Sawyer’s Landing provides another crucial pit stop with overnight rooms for traveling Bitcoiners.
  • 3. Main Street Services: The ecosystem covers practical everyday needs, too. You can get a haircut at Hairapeutic, schedule pregnancy imaging at Sneak a Peek Ultrasounds, or bring heavy diesel machinery in for work at Bobs Tractor & Equipment Repair

Nearby Missouri Bitcoin 40+ Stores

If you live in Farmington, Saint Louis or anywhere in Missouri, the option to live fully on bitcoin is becoming a reality. I’ve listed all the businesses that I know of, and happy to add more. As always, email vagabond@b.tc with your story and we will get it covered.
