Who Governs What an Agent Learns?

30 October 2026 at 06:54
The following article originally appeared on Tim O’Brien’s Medium blog and is being republished here with the author’s permission. I think we’re missing something in the conversation about agent security. We keep asking whether an agent has the right β€œidentity” and β€œcredentials.” Whether its credentials expire fast enough. Whether it can access a database or […]

Ex-Palantir execs launch Dream with $17M from a16z to build AI world models for construction

29 October 2026 at 12:21
Dream is grounded in real physics and construction standards. Just as LLMs learn from text, Dream's world model is trained on more than 100 million square feet of building data gathered from permit archives across the United States.

The PHP Incident

28 October 2026 at 11:58
The PHP security incident is now (almost) old news. The timeline looks something like this: In late August, Wiz Research discovered two serious remote code execution vulnerabilities in PHP called PHP2Shell. They reported the vulnerabilities to the PHP team on August 24, which started working on fixes on September 21. Amazon apparently detected PHP2Shell in […]

Forget "Malaise 2.0," GM says it's still all-in on EVs and autonomy

22 October 2026 at 09:04

It’s easy to criticize US automakers and their tepid approach to electric vehicles under the current administration and the expiration of the EV tax credit. It’s also easy to look at the rest of the world's embrace of EVs and wonder if the US is entering a β€œMalaise 2.0” era. Which is why GM wants the world to know that it is still focused on its end goals of electrification, autonomy, and improving vehicle quality while reducing development time.

At this year’s GM Forward event, company executives announced that its hands-off, eyes-off Super Cruise technology will expand across the lineup and be available on nearly every vehicle. This will include the pickup trucks and the crossovers, and not just the Escalade IQ that it was announced for last year.

Sterling Anderson, GM’s head of product, said the company is testing this technology to the tune of 1 million miles (1.6 million km) a month in both the virtual and real world. The goal is that not only would the vehicle be able to take you places, but it could go and do things for you.

When Architecture Decisions Actually Apply

13 October 2026 at 07:02
In my previous Radar article, β€œArchitectural Guardrails for AI-Generated Code,” I argued that AI coding agents need a layer that can hold architectural decisions in a structured corpus, retrieve the relevant ones, put them into the agent’s context before it writes code, and enforce explicit constraints with reproducible checks. Testing that model exposed two distinctions […]

The Agentic Data Science Playbook

30 September 2026 at 12:06
The following article originally appeared on Vanishing Gradients and is being republished here with the authors’ permission When an AI agent can explore a dataset, choose a modeling approach, run the analysis, and explain its findings, what should the data scientist do? Traditionally, data scientists chose each step and implemented much of the analysis themselves. […]

Human Judgment Doesn’t Leave the Software Factory, It Relocates

25 September 2026 at 11:56
The following article originally appeared on Elevate and is being reposted here with the author’s permission. A software factory is a repeatable loop around software work. If you’re building a software factory, code good enough to ship still needs human taste and ownership. We’ll discuss this including whether you need a factory just yet. If […]

Architecting for the Knowledge You Can’t Capture

16 September 2026 at 12:00
Every knowledge program seems to begin with the same request. A senior engineer is leaving in six weeks, and someone asks her to document the process she’s carried for years. She returns a clean flowchart of the happy path. The drawing is accurate and may even be elegant. It leaves out the thresholds she watches, […]

Why β€œIt Depends” Is the Most Future-Proof Phrase in Software

12 August 2026 at 11:54
Ask an architect almost any question and you’ll get the same answer: It depends. For years this answer has been the punchline of jokes about architects, but in an era when AI can generate a working service faster than you can describe it, β€œit depends” is one of the most important phrases in software. It […]
