Bitcoin Mining Firm Luxor Raises $16 Million to Scale AI Compute Trading and Hardware

Seattle-based Luxor Technology Corporation announced a $16 million strategic investment round on Tuesday. CMT Digital, the venture capital arm of Chicago-based CMT Group, led the round. Canaan, MicroBT, Halo, Steelhead, and angel investors also participated.

The round includes both primary and secondary capital. Luxor describes each investor as an operating partner in the compute supply chain it serves, spanning hardware, capital, and power.

The raise follows the September launch of Luxor AI, a business segment that extends the energy, hardware, software, compute trading, and data stack Luxor built for bitcoin mining into artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.

Luxor said its hardware brokerage desk has traded $1 billion of ASIC hardware for bitcoin mining. Its energy arm services more than 75 megawatts of load across ERCOT and SPP. Its agentic cloud platform had reached 1.8 million workloads year to date as of September.

The firm plans to use the new capital in four areas: scaling its agentic cloud platform, providing working capital for its AI hardware business, expanding its compute derivative trading and market making, and hiring engineering and go-to-market staff.

The hardware push responds to tightening supply chains. The firm’s AI hardware desk sources GPUs and AI servers through a tiered network of partners. As a Value-Added Reseller to major OEMs, the company says it can access abandoned orders, special allocations, and used markets.

Luxor and AI compute

CMT Digital brings nearly three decades of electronic trading and market-structure experience. Sam Hallene, a partner at CMT Digital, said Luxor understands the energy and infrastructure landscape behind compute, as well as the financial tools customers need to manage risk. He said the team has built that skill over eight years in digital assets and is applying it to AI.

Luxor’s over-the-counter desk already offers cash-settled options, forwards, and backstops on compute-rental indexes. CMT’s backing, the company says, positions Luxor to scale that business as AI compute becomes a tradable market.

Canaan CEO Nangeng Zhang said his company is pursuing long-term power resources in North America as part of its compute-plus-energy strategy, and that joining Luxor’s cap table aligns with those goals. He called the company an important partner across bitcoin mining and the energy industry.

Nick Hansen, Luxor’s CEO and co-founder, summed up the thesis: “Compute markets are converging: the same miners, power sites and capital that served digital mining are now powering AI.”

Earlier this year, the company unveiled Commander, a fleet management platform designed to help Bitcoin mining operators monitor operations, manage energy use, and optimize profitability from a single system.

Integrated with existing infrastructure, the platform offers real-time fleet monitoring, remote machine controls, and tools that help miners adjust to changing hashrate and electricity market conditions.

Public bitcoin miners had signed more than $70 billion in AI and high-performance computing contracts by the end of March, according to CoinShares data.

Bitcoin Security Expert Jameson Lopp: Cyberattacks on “Exponential” Path

Bitcoin Core just changed its security policy because AI can find bugs with a simple prompt. Jameson Lopp explains the bigger trend behind it: two and a half months of exponential growth in vulnerability discovery, attackers adopting uncensored AI models first, and security researchers who “have not been able to get a lot of rest.” He breaks down the PHP remote code execution flaw, why the fallout was smaller than expected, and why security now has to be real time and built into the development pipeline instead of a once-a-year audit.

Bitcoin Core Ends Long Embargoes for Bugs AI Can Rediscover

Bitcoin Core Ends Long Embargoes for Bugs AI Can Rediscover

Bitcoin Core has changed its security disclosure policy to speed up fixes for vulnerabilities that large language models can find with little effort, ending the months-long embargoes those bugs once received.

Maintainers merged the change to the project’s security policy on Thursday. Chaincode Labs developer Antoine Poinsot, who wrote the proposal, announced it in a message to the Bitcoin Development Mailing List the same day.

“We recently experienced an increase in the number of reports for security vulnerabilities that can be easily (re-)discovered,” Poinsot wrote. “This is largely due to LLMs drastically reducing the bar to find certain classes of issues or identify covert fixes.”

How the policy worked before

Bitcoin Core, the software that runs on most nodes in the Bitcoin network, has graded each reported vulnerability by severity and timed its disclosure to match. Low-severity flaws were made public two weeks after the next major version shipped.

Medium- and high-severity issues stayed under embargo until two weeks after the last affected release reached end of life, a span that could stretch to a year.

The extended timelines gave node operators, many of whom upgrade at a slow pace, time to move to patched software before details became public. In practice, the approach meant fixes went unreleased for older maintained versions and arrived with the next major release.

Poinsot argued that this tradeoff fails for bugs that are easy to rediscover. “The embargo period achieves little but it delays the availability of a fixed release,” the policy reads.

What changes

During triage, Bitcoin Core can flag a vulnerability as “easily discoverable,” a category the policy defines as issues that can be found “with minimal effort, such as through a simple LLM prompt.” The label is open to flaws found by other means as well.

For those issues, the project will backport a fix to every maintained major version, cut point releases as soon as possible and publish a security advisory with some details at the same time as the fixed software.

Poinsot acknowledged that such fixes will have less testing time before they reach users.

Vulnerabilities outside that category keep the existing severity-based schedule. Critical bugs, those that could enable coin theft at the protocol level, inflate the supply or cause a permanent chain split, remain outside the standard policy and will be handled case by case.

Developer Antoine Riard pushed for an option to ship a fix without an advisory and withhold details on a case-by-case basis. Poinsot declined, writing that alerting users without details “could create more risk unnecessarily” by prompting a rushed migration among users who would otherwise be unaffected.

A summer of AI-driven reports

The change follows months of heightened pressure on Bitcoin’s open-source projects. In late July, a volunteer group of 16 developers known as the Bitcoin Red Team ran AI models across 390 bitcoin repositories in about a day and logged 4,962 findings, including 85 rated critical.

Within days, a BTCPay Server flaw the group had reported in private was exploited on live merchant servers, draining Lightning nodes.

In August, Core Lightning developers told operators to upgrade or disconnect after AI-generated reports to the project proved accurate.

The Red Team effort followed a Coldcard hardware wallet exploit in which attackers drained 594 BTC in 25 minutes on July 30. Losses across four sweeps approached $114 million.

Robinhood Wins Dubai License to Bring Bitcoin and Stock Trading to the Middle East in 2027

Robinhood Wins Dubai License to Bring Bitcoin and Stock Trading to the Middle East in 2027

Robinhood Markets has received authorization from the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) to offer retail trading and custody across 10 asset classes, including bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, equities, ETFs and investment tokens, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The platform is set to go live in the region in 2027 from a new hub in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), a special economic zone that will serve as the firm’s Middle East and North Africa headquarters.

Salah Kaddoura has been named senior executive officer and president of Robinhood MENA. The title is a DFSA-recognized role, which makes him the person regulators will call. He will build out the Dubai team ahead of launch.

“The DIFC is one of the world’s most important financial hubs, and our expansion there brings us closer to building a global platform that enables anyone, anywhere to own the highest quality financial assets,” said Vlad Tenev, Robinhood’s chairman and CEO, in the company statement.

Robinhood’s expansion over the years

Dubai extends a run of expansion beyond the US, where the app made its name with young investors trading single stocks.

Robinhood entered the UK in 2024, opened full operations in the European Union last year, won in-principle approval for brokerage services in Singapore in April, and closed its purchase of Canadian crypto platform WonderFi in June.

At home, it added weekend trading and perpetual futures in September. The company says it counts more than one million customers outside the US.

Johann Kerbrat, who runs crypto and international for Robinhood, framed the Dubai move around a wave of new retail investors in the region. He is the same executive who disclosed on October 7 that Robinhood had put $25 million of bitcoin on its own balance sheet, the first time the firm held BTC as a corporate asset rather than on behalf of customers.

The DFSA has signed off on Robinhood holding client digital assets, not routing trades alone. For a firm that took years to enable bitcoin withdrawals in the United States, being cleared for custody from day one in a new jurisdiction says something about how far its crypto operation has matured.

Robinhood arrives in a financial center that keeps growing despite the war with Iran and tension across the region. The DIFC passed 10,000 active registered firms this year and continues to draw global names, Ken Griffin’s Citadel among them.

In March, it opened a cluster of new towers with 600,000 square feet of commercial space, with Deutsche Bank and Moody’s among the tenants, according to Bloomberg. Proprietary trading firm Maven said this week it will close its New York office as it shifts weight to Dubai.

Competition will not be thin. The DIFC listed 72 authorized brokerages as of March 31, and several crypto-native exchanges hold licenses from Dubai’s separate Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority.

Robinhood has not said which countries will be served at launch, what pricing will look like, or how “eligible investors” will be defined, and that last point will decide the size of the addressable market.

Kraken Parent Payward Wins Full Dubai License, Plans UAE Launch

Crypto exchange Kraken’s parent company Payward has said it has plans to launch in the United Arab Emirates.

After receiving full market approval from Dubai’s Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority, Payward said Tuesday that Payward can now operate as a regulated virtual asset service provider serving retail, professional and institutional investors.

It follows a preliminary approval in May that allowed the company to complete its operational set-up ahead of onboarding clients.

— Bitcoin Magazine (@BitcoinMagazine) October 13, 2026

At launch, Kraken clients in the UAE will be able to trade spot and margin with dirham-denominated pairs and fund and withdraw directly in dirhams.

They’ll also have access to on-chain staking, xStocks tokenized equities and Krak for crypto transfers, while institutional clients gain OTC spot trading and Kraken Prime. Crypto derivatives and new yield products are expected later in 2026 and into 2027, subject to regulatory approval.

Payward holds more than 100 licenses and registrations worldwide, spanning Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.

The expansion comes as the company increasingly makes a number of deals. In September, Bloomberg reported that Nasdaq Inc. was investing $100 million in Payward in a deal valuing the company at $21 billion. Kraken will distribute Nasdaq’s tokenized stocks on its own platform, according to the report.

Payward and SoFi Technologies also recently announced a deal to route SoFi customers’ crypto orders through Kraken Prime, Kraken’s prime brokerage arm launched in 2025, and to list SoFi’s stablecoin on the exchange.

Kraken, like other crypto exchanges, is pushing into the traditional finance world, allowing users to trade stocks, bonds and other assets. The company has sold its app as a “primary account for everything.”

AI Coding Agents Drive Surge in Bitcoin Integration Requests: Breez

AI Coding Agents Drive Surge in Bitcoin Integration Requests: Breez

Bitcoin software company Breez said demand for its developer tools has surged since AI coding agents went mainstream, with partnership inquiries rising roughly 14-fold as developers, and increasingly the agents they deploy, look to add bitcoin payments to their apps.

In a company blog post, it tied the jump directly to Anthropic’s Claude Code, which launched as a research preview in February 2025 and became generally available three months later.

Before 2025, Breez said, most prospective partners fell into three camps: committed bitcoin enthusiasts, crypto developers, and fintech firms that treat bitcoin as an asset class.

Since Claude Code arrived, the company said, it has heard from many developers with little or no bitcoin experience. Requests have come from fitness apps, messaging apps that want users to send each other money, an eSIM service for travelers, and the team behind a mushroom-identification app.

Breez said many of these developers pick bitcoin for speed. Setting up traditional payment acceptance, including a bank account and cross-border transfers, can take weeks or months, while the company says its SDK can be running within minutes.

Breez said a growing share of inquiries now come from software, not people. The company said it regularly fields requests from coding agents writing on behalf of the companies that deploy them.

The company argues agents favor bitcoin because it is permissionless. An agent can build an app and set up payments for users worldwide without opening a bank account, passing onboarding checks or signing forms.

“Bitcoin is agnostic about whether the code of its current owner and user is composed of DNA base pairs or weights in a neural net,” Breez wrote.

That same absence of gatekeeping has long drawn scrutiny from financial regulators, who require traditional payment providers to verify customers.

Breez said its newest SDK implementation, built on the Bitcoin scaling protocol Spark, handled the added volume without problems.

The company framed the shift as an update to investor Marc Andreessen’s 2011 essay arguing that software is eating the world, saying AI is now eating software. It compared Bitcoin’s role to background infrastructure like electrical sockets and subsea cables.

Money20/20 USA 2026 reflects a profound shift in the financial ecosystem. One where Bitcoin and digital assets are increasingly moving from the edge of innovation into the centre of global finance. What began with Bitcoin’s vision of a global, internet-native monetary network is now influencing discussions on payments, settlement, custody and cross-border commerce across traditional finance.

The rise of borderless financial architecture

Money20/20’s agenda is built around four defining pillars that reflect the forces shaping the future of financial services: Borderless Financial Architecture, Technology as the Great Equalizer, Partnerships as the Engine to Scale, and Brave New World: Setting Guardrails.

Borderless Financial Architecture stands out as one of the most dynamic themes for Bitcoin. It explores how cross-border modernisation, tokenisation, interoperability and stablecoins are reshaping the movement of money and value around the world.

Stablecoins are expanding the potential for Bitcoin in traditional finance. While Bitcoin has been adopted by asset management through tokenized funds, stablecoins are paving the way for tokenized payments at scale. Payments infrastructure is integrating stablecoins as a critical layer, with discussions focused on real-world adoption, regulatory frameworks, cross-border payments and the future of global commerce.

The importance of stablecoins in payments is reflected in conversations such as “From Pilot to Payout: What it Takes to Move Stablecoin Payments at Platform Scale,“ featuring Will Artingstall, Head of Banking as a Service at Citi, Rowland Berry, Vice President, Stablecoin of Payoneer and Renata Camera Santos, Head of Wallet of eBay. The discussion promises a practical look at how stablecoins are moving from experimentation to operational deployment.

Equally notable is “Stablecoins Without the BS: What $1.5T in Transactions Actually Signals,“ featuring Michael Shaulov, CEO of Fireblocks, and former Federal Reserve innovation leader Sunayna Tuteja now Atlantic Council. At a time when stablecoins are becoming increasingly important to global settlement and treasury operations, few conversations are likely to draw more attention from institutional attendees.

Attendees interested in practical implementation should also prioritise “Building the Infrastructure Behind a Stablecoin Program,“ featuring Vira Platonova, SVP, Global Head of Visa Direct of Visa, Farooq Malik, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Rain and Malcolm Clarke, Global Head of Digital Assets of Western Union.

Each of these conversations at Money20/20 USA 2026 highlights how traditional finance is integrating decentralized financial technology to create a tokenized economy. They’re opening up the potential for Bitcoin to grow further and develop an autonomous financial environment.

Agentic AI becomes a financial reality

Autonomous finance demands automated intelligence, and Agentic AI is the perfect intelligence layer. Money20/20’s Technology as the Great Equalizer pillar highlights how AI is transforming payments, fraud prevention, lending, customer experience and financial decision-making.

The agenda is packed with sessions exploring a world where AI agents actively participate in commerce. Some discussions around this topic include “The Intelligence Layer: How AI Is Rewiring Financial Services,“ featuring Zach Perret, CEO of Plaid, and Aravind Srinivas, CEO and Co-Founder of Perplexity.

Other notable sessions include:

The future of commerce involves autonomous agents acting on behalf of consumers and businesses, raising entirely new questions around trust, identity and financial control.

Bitcoin’s Institutional Moment

Digital assets and tokenisation will have a larger presence than ever before at Money20/20 USA 2026. The dedicated Intersection program, focused on the convergence of traditional finance and decentralised finance, brings together leaders from Coinbase, Kraken, Circle, Robinhood, Stripe and Citi to explore how digital asset markets are integrated with mainstream financial services.

Bitcoin serves as the benchmark for institutional adoption of decentralized finance. The growing presence of major banks, payment providers and digital asset firms at Money20/20 reflects how Bitcoin has helped open the door for broader engagement with blockchain-based finance.

Standout sessions include “The Tokenized RWA and Stablecoins Flywheel“ featuring executives from Coinbase, Citi and Stripe; “Goodbye TradFi: Crypto Is the Future of Consumer Fintech“ featuring Phantom alongside Sequoia Capital.

Financial institutions are no longer debating whether blockchain technology matters. They are actively determining how to participate, compete and build within the next generation of financial infrastructure.

Navigating Money20/20 USA for the First Time

For attendees focused on Bitcoin and digital assets, the Intersection program, stablecoin sessions and discussions on tokenisation and cross-border settlement offer some of the clearest insights into how institutional adoption is evolving. Use the Money20/20 Connect platform to schedule meetings before arriving, take advantage of SmartMeet sessions, and prioritise networking opportunities as much as conference content.

Most importantly, arrive on Sunday. The specialised summits, first-time attendee networking sessions, and Sunday Night Live x The Money Awards provide valuable opportunities to establish relationships before the main event begins.

Money20/20 is where the future of decentralized finance is shaped. As finance becomes increasingly borderless, intelligent and programmable, the event brings together the leaders defining the next era of payments, banking, AI and digital assets. Each one is a natural consequence of the emergence of Bitcoin, which has challenged assumptions about money, ownership and value transfer since 2009.

These conversations are strategic discussions about the technologies and business models reshaping the global financial system. The future of money is no longer on the horizon, it’s already being built.

BlackRock Says AI Agents Could Be the Next Big Driver of Crypto Demand

Artificial intelligence and digital assets are beginning to converge, with AI models showing a preference for bitcoin and stablecoins, according to research cited by BlackRock .

In a new report, the $15 trillion Wall Street giant said that card networks and automated clearing houses involve human-driven onboarding, fees that make tiny payments uneconomic and slower settlement and finality.

The report, “The Machine-Native Economy”, is a bet that the next big source of crypto demand won’t be human investors but software. As AI agents begin booking travel, buying data and renting computing power on their own, BlackRock argues, they will need payment systems that run around the clock and can handle transactions worth fractions of a cent.

NEW: $15 trillion BlackRock says AI agents may choose to save in #Bitcoin for "long-term value preservation" 👀

"These findings … point to a potential AI-native monetary architecture in which stablecoins serve as transactional money and bitcoin as a store of value." 👏 pic.twitter.com/utJHYuTkGJ

— Bitcoin Magazine (@BitcoinMagazine) October 6, 2026

“As AI agents become more capable and as their real-world applications expand, they increasingly demand payment and asset infrastructure designed natively for machine-speed commerce,” the report read.

“Crypto-native blockchain rails are particularly well suited to high-frequency, sub-cent, machine-to-machine transactions that take place around-the-clock, including API calls, on-demand data, and consumption based compute.”

It added that the Bitcoin Policy Institute research found that “controlled simulations generally favored stablecoins for everyday payments and bitcoin for long-term value preservation.”

“As AI adoption broadens and agentic systems become more capable, digital

assets could become increasingly integral to AI’s economic infrastructure, expanding utility across stablecoins, tokenized RWAs, and native cryptoassets that support blockchain settlement,” the report noted.

BlackRock has long praised Bitcoin and other crypto apps that utilize its technology, like the tokenization of assets.

The Securities and Exchange Commission in 2024 approved BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust,

which has since attracted the most investment and trading volume out of all U.S. bitcoin ETFs. The fund had the most successful debut in the history of ETFs and now manages over $67 billion in assets.

BlackRock has previously said that Bitcoin is in an asset class of its own, and that investors are buying it to hedge against any potential debt crises.
