One year after sweeping layoffs, the State Department is hiring again for many of the same roles, leaving former employees questioning the agency's strategy.
A CDC employee said the agency is reeling from deep workforce cuts and “running on fumes.” It lost thousands of employees last year, and has hired hundreds.

Internal documents contradict statements from USDA leaders, who repeatedly said they did not anticipate relocations would lead to widespread staffing losses.
