4 excellent HBO Max comedies to watch this weekend (July 24-26)

For more than five decades, HBO/HBO Max has mastered the serious business of fire-breathing dragons, drug warfare, and gangsters sleeping with the fishes. But when you scroll past all that brooding, though, you'll find the service is also quietly stacked with all kinds of comedies, and right now, U.S. subscribers have four of them right at their fingertips for a weekend full of laughs.

5 award-winning movies you need to add to your Netflix watchlist

Awards are certainly not the most important aspect for judging a movie's quality. Other elements, including box office and cultural impact, can help influence how an audience reacts to a movie. However, awards can influence your decision when choosing a movie, especially on Netflix, a streaming service with thousands of movies to watch.

I replaced my default Linux terminal with this cross-platform oneβ€”and I'm not going back

Did you know there are different Linux terminals, some with unique and special features that can genuinely improve your day-to-day experience? For the average user, the choice doesn't matter much, but if you're planning to get serious about the terminalβ€”using terminal apps, Vim, or Emacsβ€”the terminal you choose becomes almost as important as the Linux distribution you run. With that in mind, here's why I settled on my current terminal, along with how the other popular options compare to my daily driver.

I finally tried an Atomic Linux desktopβ€”and I'm no longer afraid to break my system

I have broken Linux desktops in all the usual ways. I have installed a random PPA because some forum comments from 2018 sounded confident. I have removed a package that looked useless, only to discover it was holding the login screen together with tape and ancestral prayers. Not only that, but I upgraded at midnight, watched the system return with a black screen, and then pretended this was β€œlearning” (copeeee!).

3 shows I bought on DVD because Netflix, Hulu, and Disney wouldn't give me all the episodes

For me, being a fan of physical media never went out of style. I've never much cared for streaming, and when I douse it, I'm selective or self-host whenever possible. With some companies ditching physical media altogether, there's never been a better time to start collecting again. Of course, prior to now, streaming services have always been missing episodes of our favorite show despite its convenience. So I grabbed three of my favorite shows on DVD so I could have a complete collection.

This $44,000 Toyota SUV quietly beats its Lexus twin on fuel economy

Lexus is Toyota's luxury division, but Toyota often builds a Lexus-badged twin to capture buyers who want that extra refinement without the higher sticker price. The Grand Highlander and the Lexus TX mimic that pattern as closely as any two vehicles have. Both are three-row midsize SUVs, both ride on a version of the same platform, and both come from the same Toyota Motor Manufacturing plant in Princeton, Indiana.

4 excellent Netflix movies to watch this week (July 20-26)

As we round the corner into the final straight of July, Netflix still has a lot of life left in it when it comes to options that make for good weekday movie nights. Netflix U.S. viewers seem to still be flocking to the disaster doc, Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea, that we covered in our weekly roundup of documentaries, as it still sits in the streamer's Top 3, but if a doc isn't what you're looking for, read on.
