3 must-watch HBO Max shows to binge this week (July 21-26)

21 July 2026 at 16:30

HBO Max has a reputation to uphold. It's one of the O.G. premium cable networks and has been the home of prestige TV for decadesβ€”it's the home of the dragons, the mushroom-zombies, the goombahs, and the rich people misbehaving at luxury resorts. 5 Prime Video shows I'm downloading on my phone before my next flight

21 July 2026 at 14:30

When it comes to in-flight entertainment, there are two kinds of flyersβ€”the ones who gamble on the random crud on the seat-back screen or the airplane Wi-Fi and those who download their entertainment the night before. Be the second kind. TV shows offer the ultimate flexibility when flying. You can watch a single episode between the drink cart and your nap, or binge a whole season on a long-haul flightβ€”it's your call.

Tom Hiddleston’s new Pompeii documentary uncovers a surprising story of survival

21 July 2026 at 12:15

Tom Hiddleston is fascinated by Pompeii. As he tells me below, "Pompeii isn't just a place; it's the people." Outside of acting, one of Hiddleston's true passions in life is the ancient world. Stealing a page out of his character Loki's playbook on the Marvel show on Disney+, Hiddleston attempts to travel back to 79 AD to investigate the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston.

3 shows I bought on DVD because Netflix, Hulu, and Disney wouldn't give me all the episodes

21 July 2026 at 10:45

For me, being a fan of physical media never went out of style. I've never much cared for streaming, and when I douse it, I'm selective or self-host whenever possible. With some companies ditching physical media altogether, there's never been a better time to start collecting again. Of course, prior to now, streaming services have always been missing episodes of our favorite show despite its convenience. So I grabbed three of my favorite shows on DVD so I could have a complete collection.

19 July 2026 at 15:30

Netflix has its fair share of exclusive titles in the form of Netflix Originals, but of all the titles in the niche library, only a few can truly be recognized for being groundbreaking. Some pioneered new film-making techniques, others raised the bar for animation, and a few have reshaped television today.

4 streaming service features that already feel outdated in 2026

19 July 2026 at 12:45

Streaming hasn't officially replaced cable or satellite TV, but it's come pretty close. According to a Pew Research Center survey, 83% of U.S. adults watch streaming services. I'm certainly someone who uses streaming, but I have noticed that some of the medium's capabilities feel antiquated. Here are the four streaming features that feel outdated in 2026.

18 July 2026 at 16:00

We're at the halfway point of 2026, making it a great time to look back at what Netflix has released so far while also looking ahead to the rest of the year. Personally, my two favorite Netflix movies from earlier this year are The Rip and War Machine. As for what's in store for the rest of the year, it's a mix of horror, animation, crime, and drama.

4 addictive Prime Video miniseries you can binge in a single day

18 July 2026 at 12:00

Indulging in high-quality miniseries is one of the best ways to enjoy the offerings in Amazon Prime Video’s catalog. They’re the perfect alternative to the platform’s bigger shows, like Fallout, that require a commitment to long, drawn-out watches, and they feel just as cinematic as any big-budget movie. Larger shows can be entertaining, but they aren’t always the best option when you’re in the mood for something quick.
