The arrival of August means that HBO Max has announced its lineup of new shows and movies coming to the platform. Subscribers have a hearty selection of new content to choose from, but first, the month kicks off with a new original docuseries from the director of Tiger King that’s both shadowy and gripping.

Netflix is arguably the most popular streaming service in the world. However, it's not the only streamer that boasts great movies. HBO Max, Hulu, Paramount+, and Prime Video all have vast libraries with terrific movies in various genres. If you know where to look, you'll find plenty of certified classics.

July has made that case again (June was pretty solid, too), with some genuinely fascinating docs and series from the likes of Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+/Hulu, and Paramount+ that I've watched that have hijacked more than one entire weekend of mine.
